Hi!

I'm not sure we had this discussion before... but YES, the trope of immigrants eating pets is objectively and historically
RACIST to the extreme.

The "they eat x,y,z!" meme has been levied against most unwanted ethnic communities around the world. If you're repeating these stories as an effort to make a political point... you're doing so because you're a racist who likes racist attacks.

We get it. You hate minorities. Please move on.

It's all fun and games... until someone eats a drone fired Hellfire missile. LOL. Chuds calling for people to go get their guns to confront the federal government are mad.

I'm very sorry snowflakes.

The funniest part of all the Abbott/Secession talk is that if Texas did secede from America, we would get all those #FAFO stories (like for Brexit).

"Texans are angry that they now have to stand in the 'Foreign Visitors' line at the airport." "Texans are outraged that they need a Visa to visit family in America."

Congratulations to WHITE SUPREMACY for winning a huge victory today. Asian Americans have consistently been used as a foil to eliminate Affirmative Action programs which serve to repair centuries of intentional discrimination against Black and Latino AND Asian communities.

Having Asian Americans as parties doesn't make it any less racist.

The state of Texas used to fund public education at 60%. That ratio plummeted to 40% over the past 2 decades.

Texas Republicans didn't bother to do anything about it till they lost 12 seats in 2018.

But, yes, let's BLINDLY trust them this time. Local school districts complained about the state's shortfall for more than a decade.

Smaller school districts had no choice but to increase local taxes to make up the difference.

State Republicans didn't give a shit until it cost them politically.

Once again, not even standing room left to see @BetoORourke today.

These are people from the Humble and Kingwood area (the reddest Republican parts).

Plenty of Republicans came out to listen and ask questions. I was even surprised about the size of the turnout and energy in such a bright red area.

Look, I've been told not to call people stupid...

But, this has been covered again and again.

The cost of public education in Texas is shared by STATE and LOCAL funds. The share (or ratio) of S:L has been shifting hard to the local side for a decade. I mean, this is a broadly covered topic in Texas politics.

Here's an article ... From 2018!

The "criminals don't follow laws" argument is getting dumber and dumber after each successive mass shooting.

Shooters who intend to commit mass murder may not follow the law, but people around them, like gun sellers, do. Image The Uvalde shooter tried multiple times to illegally purchase a weapon before turning 18, but family, friends, and gun sellers refused to break the law.

I'm very excited about Abbott going full-bore into Private School Vouchers.

Creating a massive schism between suburban Republicans and rural Republicans is going to be a Godsend. The MAGA Troopers are already whipped up into a frenzy in support of it.

Vouchers have been universally and unequivocally condemned by Rural Republicans every single session for the past decade.

This is a kitchen table type issue.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, prisoners are WARDS of the state.

The state controls every aspect of their life the moment they are incarcerated.

Texas has a responsibility to keep inmates in good health and free from inhumane conditions.

houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t… In my time visiting Texas prisons, what struck me was how many really old men are behind bars.

Most, that I've talked to, are serving really long sentences.

They all have poor health.

This man was tackled by an off-duty police officer before he got to a kids dance competition in the Galleria Mall with a loaded AR-15.

He COULD ONLY be charged with a misdemeanor. (Not a felony)

He should have been RED FLAGGED from getting another gun. But because Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans have consistently blocked any attempt to pass a RED FLAG LAW...

He was able to get another handgun and attempted to enter the FBI BUILDING before being arrested.

I'm going to try to lay off the really heavy stuff while I'm on the beach with my kids.

But I just want to say a few things.

...

It may surprise detractors, but not only am I a gun owner but I actually really like guns. I own several guns.

I'm not going to say what I own... because the public doesn't need to know.

But I practice with them and I clean and maintain them myself.

Give me all your dumb arguments against sensible gun regulations (or stuff you heard.) I look forward to rebutting every single one. Here we go:

This is called an "Ad Hominem" argument - where you attack your opponent personally instead of discussing the issue.

This is a favorite of people who don't actually want meaningful discussion, but pretend to be civil.

No response needed.

"gun don't shoot themselves"

Chemical fertilizers don't turn themselves into bombs.

Box cutters don't hijack planes by themselves.

Pipe bombs don't send themselves through the mail.

...

Yet we have regulations and restrictions on all of them. Despite all of those things being inanimate objects, without thought or motive power, we have agreed to regulate their sale, use, or possession.

This is because we agree that, despite being inanimate objects, they can BE USED by people to cause unspeakable harm.

Everything in this extremely misleading opinion piece is contradicted by newer data and studies that shows a direct relationship between regulation and a reduction in violent incidents.

Just like every single other thing that exists in our society. The DOJ study ... conducted by Bush's DOJ... said that Bush's decision to let the Assault Weapons Ban expire was no big deal.

They concluded the ban didn't do much because there weren't any mass shootings with assault weapons DURING THE BAN.

Think about that.

Read it again.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you, the President of the Police Union.

Here he is pretending (?) that he doesn't understand how the Legislature works or how many times I've carried bills for HPD.

I hope his union members are happy with this. Not really sure if his comment is considered meaningful dialogue.

I'm new at this politics thing.

Despite being called out on repeated lies, and after correcting themselves, when caught...

The leadership at Crime Stoppers Houston doubles down.

They gotta maintain the POLITICAL MESSAGING they promised Gov. Abbott for the $4 Million. You just can't make this stuff up.

These statements were just hours apart.

Here it is.

Commissioner Garcia called it out in the hearing today.

Why does CSH keep talking about Felony Bond Reform as the cause of crime issues when they openly admit there is no such thing (when confronted)?

Because there is a political play behind it. The end. Crime Stoppers says they support Misdemeanor bond reform - the only actually bond reform that exists.

And they KNOW, have been CORRECTED, and admitted ERROR many times when called out for talking about Felony Bond Reform instead.

This 🧵 discusses the particularly shady part of Gov. Abbott's secret $4 million gift to Crime Stoppers Houston.

Abbott VETOED the money first.
Then Abbott quietly gave it to them from his funds.

Why? --- so there's no no oversight and no accountability. He owns them now. Why does an organization that spends about $300k a year on their core mission need $4 million at one time?

Why did they "need" $4 million at one time for media and publicity?
