As part of @GeorgetownICAP's mission to protect democracy and the legitimacy of government institutions, we continue to litigate civil cases against unauthorized private militias. Here's a 🧵on a new development in one of these cases. abqjournal.com/2488239/nm-civ… Today's "militias" are unlawful private paramilitary groups. Another big ICAP win!! After over two years, we finally defeated Trump's exclusionary Passport Rule for the diversity visa program, which placed unnecessary burdens on immigrants and resulted in drastic drops in diversity visa participation. 🧵ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_p… This will reignite the dream of immigration to the U.S. for those who struggle with poverty or live in places where passports are difficult or expensive to obtain, and allow folks in the U.S. from those communities to experience growth and the joy of reunification with loved ones

BREAKING: Today we filed suit on behalf of @oknaacp challenging Oklahoma's new anti-protest law, HB 1674, under the 1st and 14th amendments. This law's vague and overbroad terms discourage peaceful protests and threaten organizations like NAACP with draconian fines. The NAACP does not engage in or condone violence, yet the law’s vague new provisions potentially subject the organization to devastating penalties if it is found to be a “conspirator” with anyone who happens to commit certain crimes related to unlawful assembly.

2019 has been quite a year for @GeorgetownICAP & our work to defend the Constitution!

As the year draws to a close, here's a look back at some highlights. /1 In February, @GeorgetownICAP's fight against President Trump's border wall on behalf of a historic Texas chapel yielded a big win, as the chapel was written into federal law as a site where no wall construction could occur. /2 washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/…
