Reasons why conservatives like saying ADHD/Autism are superpowers:
1) So they don't have to help.
2) So they can sell a book. No but seriously like half the time this discourse hits my timeline it's down to one white woman in a maga hat with 300k followers and an ebook out now.

I really don't understand "ADHD made me cheat on my partner"

Like, I get impulsivity is a thing but there are just so many steps to cheating that at some point it has to just be a decision you have made, no? Like maaaybe, if you're talking like, snogged someone in a club. Though I still think you have to be putting yourself in that position in the first place.

But actual sexy times? Unless you were working late, at the mattress factory, on naked Wednesday, I just don't see it.

Autism is: asking "Why?" And never really getting an answer that makes sense I mean, also ADHD and other NDs but this vibes autism to me.

PSA for the "that's not ADHD/Autism" crowd. I have identified the problem, I know why you're upset. You're thinking about it wrong ⬇️ You think we're creating some sort of medical checklist, a criteria for which enough ✅ should indicate a medical diagnosis.

The thing that's hardest to deal with about an ADHD diagnosis is realising that this is the rest of your life.

Youre used to thinking if you can just fix your routine, go to the gym regularly, eat properly, work on your sleep than you'll be able to function 'normally'... You lost that with your ADHD dx, those thing will always be hard for you, doing all of them at once requires herculean effort.

Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing but...

ADHD is: being pretty good at basically anything you want to be and absolutely terrible at anything you need to do to live. *no experience is universal.

But of course, we all know that because not every experience applied to us before dx/self-dx but the weight of it did and so we still accepted our ND.

Once again. Not saying some, is not the same as saying all.

Mythbusting ableism?

I'll start.

Non-ADHDers, who take adderall to help them study, are statistically *more likely to fail* than the non-ADHDers who don't.

ADHD students who take adderall are statistically *as likely to pass or fail* as non-ADHDers who don't take adderall. Buff dog vs Crying dog meme... Learning this was important for me.

ADHD (in the USA especially) has become a sort of moral panic. But... Its hard to fight doctors.

So, as with all moral panics, they start to try and pin things that society considers wrong on it.

In this case. Cheating.

God I'm really slow this morning

*remembers meds*

Ah God I'm hungry this morning

*remembers putting breakfast bar in pocket*

So this is my least favourite kind of response to this. I understand not every person with ADHD (or even anything else) will have the same traits. So if you don't vibe with it that's cool. Not saying 'some' is not the same as saying ' all'. But this super feels like gatekeeping. See I was diagnosed late, at 34.
Part of that is I don't fit in to some of the typical stereotypes. I'm ADHD-C, and clinically more hyperactive - but, that hyperactivity is mostly internal. I also grew up poor, where adhd kids are more likely to be dismissed as 'naughty'

So the really interesting thing I'm finding with this is the diversity of people identifying.
It seems to span age, race, gender, nationality and language - that feels really rare to me, esp when talking about communication which traditionally varies wildly across demos. Reach on this is relatively low, but engagement is over 20% which is massive (average is 0.5%). The Rt:Like ratio is at 1:2 - social media hat on, this tell me the post is highly 'relatable'.

How ADHD people write VS how we have to write. ImageImage *Yes I know. Just ignore it yeah? I made it in 5 minutes and I was excited - I proofread as well as I was ever going to in that situation.
