Let’s talk about pigs, seeing as they're topical.
I used to buy weaners in the spring, raise them to optimum weight and take them for slaughter in the autumn.
One September was a bit of a tense time, as trailer issues caused a delay in the slaughter time.

Edwina and Maggie (yes, I used to name them), stubbornly kept growing, and the relief when the Polish chap at the abattoir measured them, sucked his teeth and signed them in was palpable. Another couple of kilos and they’d have been turned away.
