A core group of officers worked for/with the network: gave them info & partnered on drug deals. The surrounding institution of South Yorkshire Police found it easier to ignore/cover up what their officers/friends were doing than to protect the girls.

This is "corruption".

The idea that South Yorkshire police were "scared of being called racist" was manufactured retroactively to cover up the fact the cops partnered with the Rotherham syndicate to sell drugs stolen from the evidence room and pimp the girls to local businessmen and politicians.

The investigator sent to Rotherham by the Home Office was regularly intimidated by the police and had reports stored in her safe and on her computer stolen. The family who ran the syndicate were repeatedly given contracts to run B&Bs used as safehouses for abused girls and women.
