Next witness in the #DerekChauvinTrial is Michelle Moseng. Judge says again to jury that this evidence only being admitted as to what effect opioids may or may not have had on #GeorgeFloyd. This is not to impact his character, judge says.

Defense first witness is retired MPD officer Scott Creighton. #DerekChauvinTrial He’s here to talk about an incident with George Floyd in 2019. He’s explaining Floyd was non-responsive to his commands and grabbed Floyd’s hands and put it up on the dash.

Motions hearing now about the 2019 arrest involving #GeorgeFloyd. State has requests regarding obscuring video from that incident and that after a certain point, the video is hearsay. #DerekChauvinTrial Nelson argues he believes the other part of the video is not hearsay and relevant. Shows different perspective of officers and surroundings, he said.

OVERNIGHT: Colonel Matt Langer, MN State Patrol, said around 40 arrests were made following protest at the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Some citations were issued and bookings ranged from curfew violations to rioting. More accurate numbers will be available today. Langer also said a few officers have minor injuries after being hit with debris thrown by protestors. He was unaware of any protestors being injured.

Dr. Jonathan Rich is the first witness to testify in the #DerekChauvinTrial. Sidebar right after he spells his name. He is a cardiologist to explain his opinion on how GF died. Dr. Rich says he's never testified in court before.

NEW: Defense in #DerekChauvinTrial is requesting sequestration of jury after what happened in Brooklyn Center last night when a black man was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop. Defense said he understands it does not involve these same parties but the emotional response that that case creates sets the stage for a jury to say they won't vote not guilty because they're worried about the outcome.

Listening to a motions hearing right now ahead of the #DerekChauvinTrial today. Arguing another use of force witness the state wants to bring up is cumulative. There has already been similar testimony according to defense attorney Eric Nelson.

My dad messaged me this morning to tell me a driver was yelling at every Asian parent at the bus stop, including him, to get out of America, or they’ll be killed. Killed. He was dropping off his grandson in East Saint Paul near Lake Phalen. The woman yelled at him first and then proceeded to drive by all the other Asian guardians waiting with their children to get out or be killed.

My dad just called. He said a reporter from another local outlet asked him if he’d do an interview about how he felt about the attacks. He declined. He said he feels safe now but didn’t want to be the next target. But this brings up a larger issue. Newsrooms: It’s not about getting a soundbite from an AAPI person for this story. There needs to be deeper work to understand the history of why there is so much hurt, anger, sadness, confusion.
