Malam Nasir @elrufai has presented N219m to three tertiary institutions as full payment of tuition fees till graduation for 1251 students under the Kaduna State Government’s merit and need-based scholarships scheme. The state also provides a students’ loan window. The Kaduna State University is paid N158.53m for 755 students; the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, got N33.45m for 317 students and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic received N27.6m for 179 students.

KADUNA UPDATE: KDSG has informed the elected chairmen of Chikun and Giwa Local Govt Councils that they should continue in their roles, declaring that their suspension by the House of Assembly violates the Constitution and the laws of Kaduna State. A legal opinion by Attorney-General Aisha Dikko stated that Section 8 of the Constitution and the Kaduna State Local Govt Law No. 3 of 2018 place LGs as independent organs of government, with duly elected legislative councils, and clear procedures for removing elected officials.

KADUNA UPDATE: In the last six months, personnel costs have accounted for between 84.97% and 96.63% of FAAC transfers to Kaduna State.

Aisha Dikko, the Attorney-General of Kaduna State, has affirmed that KDSG respects the rule of law has afforded due process to every citizen it has charged for incitement, injurious falsehood or criminal defamation. facebook.com/393816480127/p… She noted that most of the individuals mentioned in the petition, have pending criminal cases. One of them has a bench warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court, while the state has rejected the request from one of them for an out of court settlement.

KDSG has directed the immediate removal of roadblocks at the various boundaries of the state. Barricades placed at the entry points are to be removed forthwith, while KDSG officials will no longer be posted for boundary patrols. The State Taskforce on Covid-19 has reviewed the situation at the state boundaries as the state emerges from partial lockdown. Persistent extortion of vehicles conveying essential goods by some security officials is complicating an already challenging period.

KADUNA UPDATE: Malam Nasir @elrufai has extended the Quarantine Orders by two weeks, with adjustments to permit the easing of restrictions in certain sectors, Deputy Governor @DrHadiza Balarabe has announced in a state broadcast... The revised regulations are intended to preserve the state’s ability to protect citizens, empower citizens to lead the fight against Covid-19 and make necessary adjustments to permit the safe resumption of the pursuit of livelihoods in more sectors.

KDSG has reacted to the strike notice by health workers, stating that it will not bend to blackmail. The Ministry of Health will ensure that health facilities run and provide services to the public, with the support of willing workers who must be offered every assistance... KDSG rejects the strike threat and will regard persons who fail to show up at their assigned places of work as having forfeited their employment. Every health worker that is willing to work is required to sign the register at the Ministry of Health or their facility of deployment

KADUNA UPDATE: Malam Nasir @elrufai has extended the quarantine orders in the state for another 30 days, effective from 26th April 2020. The decision follows a recommendation to that effect by the State Standing Committee on Covid-19, chaired by @DrHadiza Balarabe With Covid-19 cases rising rapidly in neighbouring states and the FCT, and with strong evidence of interstate travel being a major means of spreading the virus, the Standing Committee’s evaluation is that measures to protect Kaduna State residents require further strengthening...

Following today’s meeting of the State Standing Committee on Covid-19, Deputy Governor @DrHadiza Balarabe will be making her second State Broadcast in two days this evening. She will announce further steps in the state’s preventive measures against Covid-19. KDSG has invoked the Constitution, the Quarantine Act 1926 and the Public Health Law 1917 to declare Kaduna State a public health area and Covid-19 a dangerous infectious disease.

KDSG has announced extraordinary preventive measures against coronavirus: Civil servants from Level 12 and below are to stay at home for the next 30 days, except for those on essential service; only sellers of food & medicines can open their shops in the markets from tomorrow Security agencies will enforce restrictions on large gatherings, especially in churches and mosques and as well as the closure of schools, whether public or private, religious or secular, Islamiya or run by Christian missions.

As part of measures to protect residents from, and slow down the spread of the coronavirus disease, the Kaduna State Government is restricting religious services, social events and all large gatherings. While no case of Covid-19 has been reported in the state so far, the government has a duty to work with all our leaders and residents of our state to jointly ensure that everything is done to reduce the chance of the disease taking root and spreading in the state.

Justice Binta Murtala Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday reaffirmed her declaratory judgment in the suit filed in 2009 by Malam Nasir @elrufai, that there is no missing N32bn from the sale of government houses he supervised as FCT minister. Malam Nasir @elrufai filed the case in 2009 when the EFCC was smearing him on the matter and he joined 11 other entities in the suit. The court granted all the reliefs he sought. The powers of the EFCC to investigate was not among the issues he canvassed.

Reforming the Education sector in Kaduna is a continuing struggle against decades of neglect: one primary school in Rigasa had more than 22,000 pupils, taking lessons in tents. The pupils of LEA School, Lokoja Road, Rigasa, have since said bye to that sorry era. From the ashes of neglect, public primary schools are making the leap to modernity. Where over 22,000 pupils in Rigasa once had to take lessons in tents, the pupils now have access to computers in their new school

The Kaduna State Govt has disbursed the sum of N300 million as scholarship to first batch of beneficiaries of the new scholarship and loan scheme. 7,943 tertiary students are pencilled to benefit from the scholarship which has five different schemes for undergraduate students. Beneficiaries of the Need Based Scholarship are receiving N109,000 covering tuition fees and upkeep of the students and the Merit Scholarship beneficiaries are receiving N39,000.
