Tonight, Kathy and I are attending the OCA National Convention awards gala.  The theme for this year's conference is about building Community heroes and providing the tools for the next generation to continue to fight the fight for equity. Las Vegas has a strong AAPI community, but I believe that one of the core strengths of this community in particular is that they are engaged. Thank you to the OCA Las Vegas planning team for making this event possible!

I was proud to join the @WHIAANHPI Economic Summit in Las Vegas today to discuss the economic priorities, challenges and opportunities for the AANHPI community in our State. As our economy continues to grow, we need to make sure it works for all Nevadans. @SBAgov Nevada is on the move – we have more jobs today than ever before. But we’re not stopping here – we need to continue our growth and prioritize finding solutions to issues that impact our diverse and underserved communities.

Today, I joined the National Federation of Filipino American Associations for the 14th annual National Empowerment Conference. What a great opportunity to talk to current and future leaders! Filipinos are the second largest immigrant group in Nevada – at 15% of our population. And just here in Las Vegas, Nevada’s Filipino community is the largest and fastest growing AAPI community. Their success is our success – diversity is our strength.

BIG NEWS: Today, I announced that the State of Nevada submitted a comprehensive plan to secure $38 million in federal funds to enhance the Silver State’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and network, transforming our State’s transportation electrification future. Through the National Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure program in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law - we will receive more than $38 million over the next 5 years. The plan was a collaboration among multiple State agencies and partners.

Good morning, I wanted to take a moment to update you all on where we are with the status of COVID-19 in our communities. You can follow my live press conference on my YouTube channel here: youtube.com/channel/UC3DFs… We have seen a rapid decline in case numbers, coupled with declining hospitalizations, a drop in #COVID19 detected in wastewater, a broader availability of testing, and an increase in available treatments.

Today, members of the Interim Finance Committee approved the first Community Recovery Grants. I want to thank lawmakers & my team for ensuring we invest these federal dollars back into the community through programs that will have an immediate effect on the lives of Nevadans. The first non-profits to receive funds include:

The Family Support Center, located in Winnemucca. The $153,764 grant will help the center reduce wait times and serve additional clients. The organization provides community-based, outpatient mental health and wellness services.

Today I visited the #TamarackFire burn scar, where @NvDOW and @NevDCNR’s Division of Forestry are working to restore over 8,000 acres with plants, trees & flowers that benefit wildlife and are more resilient to the impacts of climate change, drought, and wildfire. This is truly impressive work. I had the opportunity to ride-along as agencies used an NDF helicopter to spread 71,400 pounds of wildfire-resilient seedlings across the landscape from the air!

Today, I was honored and humbled to have received the ‘Charles Dick Medal of Merit Award’ which was presented to me at the National Guard Association of the United States 143rd General Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas. While I am honored to be considered alongside Congressman Charles Dick – who was responsible for the passage of the Dick Acts of 1903 & 1908 that established the foundation of the modern National Guard – this award is not about me.

This State-led initiative aims at providing fast-track, much-needed infrastructure projects across the State and create thousands of good-paying jobs right here in Nevada.

Good afternoon my fellow Nevadans. We are at a critical point in our State, and I have important updates to share with you all. You can view the live stream of my updates here: youtube.com/channel/UC3DFs… On Friday night, the FDA granted emergency use authorization of the Pfizer vaccine and this morning, the Western States Panel tasked with reviewing the vaccine signed off as well. We anticipate receiving the first shipment in the State early this week.

The Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup today completed their concurrent & thorough review of the federal process & has confirmed the Pfizer Vaccine is safe & efficacious. The Workgroup provided their confirmation to the Governors of CA, NV, OR & WAS this morning Washington, Oregon & Nevada joined California’s COVID-19 Scientific Safety Review Workgroup in October, which has worked concurrently & independently to review the FDA’s actions related to COVID-19 vaccinations.
