Every family in our state should be able to access the care they need, from fertility treatments like IVF to contraception and more. You should have the choice make the healthcare decisions that are right for you.

Every Michigander deserves these fundamental freedoms. Period. I’ve heard from parents like Cynthia, who struggled for years with infertility before finally giving birth to her son through IVF. Cynthia wouldn’t have been able to have a baby without these treatments, and she told me how grateful she is for the opportunity to be a mother.

Today is my 53rd birthday! 🎂

I’d like to celebrate with 53 wishes I have for Michigan in the next year – and together, I know we can make them happen 👇 A pink graphic titled “53 Wishes!” with a photo of the Mackinac Bridge in the background. There is a list of wishes numbered 1-8, which reads: “Pre-K for All; Build, baby, build more safe affordable homes for Michiganders; Continue to fight for reproductive rights; Every Michigander has a good paying job; Lions win the Super Bowl; An environment for businesses to thrive in; Clean drinking water for…” and the final list item is partially covered up by a “sticker.” In the upper right corner is a “sticker” of a green party horn, and at the bottom is a “sticker” of Governor Whitmer’s painting o... 13. The shooting of former President Trump was a disgusting act of violence that caps off an alarming, years-long trend in our politics. There have been incidents we all know: a shooting at a practice for the Congressional baseball game, the plot to kidnap and kill me, the storming of the Capitol, and an in-home assault on the former Speaker of the House’s husband.

We're setting Michigan up for success and making record investments that will benefit everyone across the state, all without raising taxes by a penny!
That's right, another balanced, bipartisan budget in the books that will make a real difference in people's lives. Here's how 👇 📚 This budget puts students first so every Michigander can get a world-class education. We’re making record investments in education from pre-K to postsecondary, expanding free pre-K, increasing funding for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, and continuing Michigan Reconnect.

Michigan Central Station is a monument to our state’s powerful history and an inspiration for the future we’re building toward. From the early 20th century to today, it’s more than a building – it’s a symbol of what this city, what our state can be 👇 A graphic made up of old Michigan Central Station materials. The background is primarily made of some of the original blueprints for the building, showing the design of an ornate pediment in white drawing on blue paper. Overlaid on top of that in the lower right is a stylized drawing of the building around the time it was first in use. On the left are two postcards stacked on top of each other. The bottom postcard shows the back featuring an old stamp and cursive writing, and the postcard on top shows the front with a design of Michigan Central Station. 🚂 When it opened in 1914, Michigan Central Station was an icon , connecting Detroit to destinations across North America. It was a source of pride for the city, and an incredible first impression for all those who visited.

Since I took office, we’ve led with our values and reversed decades of disinvestment in our infrastructure.

The numbers speak for themselves:
1,400 bridges. 20,000 lane miles of road—enough to pave a road to Earth’s highest satellites. Supporting 118,000 good-paying jobs. We invested more in state roads and highways during my 1st term alone than the previous administrations did across 2 terms.

Let me say that again.

Women across the nation are making themselves heard this year. Whether it’s at the ballot box, in our state legislature, or in executive boardrooms.

Women are shattering ceilings, busting down doors, and pulling up chairs in every single place where big decisions are made. ...Including in the White House with our fearless, first woman @VP Kamala Harris.

Women are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work—the labor force participation rate for women in prime working age hit an all-time high this year.

Reflecting on the last 11 months, it's clear: we've gotten a lot done. 💪

At the beginning of the year, I outlined some pretty ambitious goals, and I'm proud to say we achieved many of them and more! Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivers the 2023 State of the State Address Lowering costs has always been a top priority. We secured a billion-dollar tax cut for seniors, quintupled the Working Families Tax Credit, and ensured free breakfast and lunch for 1.4 million Michigan public school students.

The result? More money in Michiganders' pockets.

It’s a big day in Michigan! 7 game-changing bills will help us become a national leader in clean energy.

Today is a huge win for Michigan. We’ll protect our air, water, and land while facing climate change head-on and lowering costs.

We have been working towards this day for a long time. I unveiled the MI Healthy Climate Plan in 2021, outlining a lot of the goals in these bills.

Our plans were ambitious, but we knew the clock was ticking for our planet. And look at us now. We got it done!

When it comes to getting things done like fixing the damn roads, improving access to healthcare, or providing options for quality education, we're not just talking the talk—we're walking the walk. Since I took office, we've fixed 20,000 lane miles of road and 1,400 bridges.

In doing so, we've supported jobs for over 100,000 hardworking men and women who do this work.

Abortion is a fundamental right.

Since I took office, I've fought like hell to protect it, and that fight continues today. We're moving forward, but first, let’s look back at all we’ve done to get here. 👇 In June of 2022, on the same day the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, we filed a motion urging the Michigan Supreme Court to immediately consider the lawsuit we proactively began back in April of 2022, asking the Court to recognize a constitutional right to abortion.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I will go anywhere and compete with anyone to grow Michigan's economy and bring good-paying jobs home. Throughout my time as governor, we've done a lot to move Michigan forward.

We secured key investments and jobs in sectors like clean energy and chip manufacturing.

We ushered in record small business growth, helping to make Michigan a Top 10 State for Business.

Today I signed the Michigan Crime Victims Rights Package, 4 overwhelmingly bipartisan bills to protect survivors. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer showcases recently signed legislation As a former prosecutor, I know how important these bills are.

We all know that any form of abuse—emotional, sexual, physical, psychological—can leave scars for decades. We must take survivors’ claims seriously and make sure they have the support they need.

Michigan, something amazing is happening here, and I need to tell you about it!

We're making MAJOR moves when it comes to reproductive freedom. It's not easy to convey just how big this is, but I'm gonna try. 🧵 Back when Roe v. Wade was repealed, it was a huge blow to reproductive rights. We took immediate action -- launching a lawsuit to help keep abortion legal in Michigan.

Thanks to our fierce advocates, we kept it legal.

To ensure Michiganders with pre-existing conditions won't be overcharged for insurance, or that insurers can't place annual or lifetime caps on coverage, we needed to act at the state level.

A wise woman once said: "Who run the world? Girls."

Today, on International Day of the Girl, I want to celebrate the incredible potential of girls worldwide and emphasize the need to continue advocating for their rights. I know this world can be challenging, but let me tell you, every challenge I've encountered has only fueled my determination to break down barriers for girls and women everywhere.

We fought hard to win insurance protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Now, we need to defend them by codifying them into Michigan state law. Pregnancy should mean an exciting addition to the family, not a reason to worry that you might lose your healthcare coverage for having a "pre-existing condition."

200 DAYS! Time flies when you're having fun and getting things done. 💪

@LtGovGilchrist and I are 200 days into our second term and I couldn't be prouder of all that we've accomplished.

Let's take a walk down memory lane, ICYMI: We started off strong in January with the 2023 State of the State address where I outlined some top goals:

➡Lowering costs for Michiganders
➡Securing more investments and good-paying jobs
➡Protecting fundamental freedoms
➡Fixing the damn roads
➡Investing in education
