Yesterday I spoke with an MLB executive, a frustrated family of a Minor Leaguer and worked with an aspiring prospect about to begin his own journey.
Here are my takeaways.
Contraction is occurring at the MACRO LEVEL!! Not in terms of MLB teams but rather MLB opportunities…
Front offices are being forced to evaluate athletes much sooner as development doesn’t happen in the Minor Leagues anymore but rather through independent organizations (facilities and colleges).
The trickle down effect for development is dangerous. Offloading the responsibility

I want to discuss THE CAR RIDE HOME!!!
I see so many people suggest that parents sole responsibility is to tell their child…”I really enjoyed watching you play.”
I’m not sure I ever took that track. There were days I wish I would have, but my emotions got the best of me. 1/5
My son played for me(Daddy Ball) and he trusted me. After every game he’d actually seek out my advice. He preferred my take when he was really good. 😜
But, those days he wasn’t good, he’d wait for it.
And I’d give him “feedback.” 🤷♂️ 2/ 5

I feel obligated to share 1b coaching thoughts since last tweet. This is how I coached it.
When the batter was in the box I was looking for catcher/pitcher/coach 😜 tendencies.
On balls in the gap, I yelled number of outs as they ran by. Wanted👌 decision making
When player reached first I reminded them of outs. With 2 outs I’d say “Easy baseball. Love to have you at 2nd. Read the dirt ball especially 0-2,1-2.”
1 out was “Don’t get jumpy on the line drive. Love to have you at 3rd on a single.
0 out…”See the bunt down if…”

Thread on WINNING and DEVELOPMENT ...
Imagine arriving at the field to play a game and the opposition said... “We’re not going to try and win today. It’s not important to us.”
You’d feel cheated. You’d feel like not playing. Why compete if the prize is no longer worth it.
So many folks scream “It’s not about winning, it’s about development.” 🤔👌
Of course that’s true in the BIG PICTURE. 5 years from now their college coach won’t care what their WIN/LOSS record was for the GoWags LumberKings. What they will care about is “Can they play?”

Thread on PERSONALIZED VS. GROUP instruction and what’s the best way to improve your skills.
Do I pay top 💰for individual lessons or do I save some 💰and place them in a group setting? 🤔
Well that depends on what you want to emphasize.
The Artist or The Expert!!! 🤷♂️(cont)
Individual settings emphasize The Expert.
Control is placed in the hands of the “Knowledge Holder.” Think Doctor. You sought him out. He has something to help you.
This was one of my “Doctor” forms back in the day. It worked for me. They trusted the method. (cont) #GreenLight

1/8 I got a call last night that sometimes strokes the ego.
“Wags, when are you going to start coaching again? I’ve never seen kids show up so excited to play. I think Green Light Hitting was the breath of fresh air they all wanted to hear. Less technique, more emotion.”
2/8 Coaching is first about understanding who you’re coaching.
ATTENDANCE DOESN’T IMPLY CONSENT!
What this means is their attendance tomorrow(next year) hinges on how you make them feel today(this year).
Too many coaches learn stuff and wanna implement stuff. Meanwhile....
