Biggest signal yet that something is going under under the hood today. Chambers of Commerce only do this when they're Very Distressed!

This is me but for Biden and The Coin Image You were never going to get this on principle from the avatar of midcentury braindead senate comity, but you might just get it from mutual incompetence

Hate to admit it but this Hostis Humani Generis (whom God commands we righteously oppose) is correct. That a deal will happen now is a given. It’s just a question of if one side trips and gives the other an opening to get more in the last inning. My one sided feud with Liam and the other ‘respectable’ Rs will continue unabated

Probably the most alarming thing I’ve heard all week If Sinema is praising your ‘negotiating team’ then you’ve given away the farm, both cows, and docking rights for the next 99 years like the Chinese lease of Hong Kong

Pendulum swinging back the other way a little bit, as hill Democrats get a sense of what a deal might look like. They must be super pissed now that they’ve been cut out from negotiations. If I were a hill staffer, it would take nine tranq darts and 15 Secret Service guards to stop me from trying to bust open the gates once I had got wind of that.

I think it’s great how all of the Econ guys, who ignored the debt ceiling for all of Q1 and most of Q2, are now panicking about a long dragged out scenario just as all of the politics people already came to grips four days ago with the debt showdown being over. If economics is the dismal science, and philosophy the gay science, politics is the Science of knowing before everyone else what all the idiots are up to

You know what, I’ll eat crow. Republicans absolutely blew out the Democrats on turn out, but once again, crossover support and persuasion carried the Democrats to victory. This is now a phenomenon we have witnessed in almost every single election between last summer and today.

Probably the most blackpilling part of the Biden experience is that voters do not actually reward wage gains for the bottom 30ish% and actively liked it when CTC was canned. A lot of people who owe their brands today to "economic left populism is an electoral panacea for the Democratic Party" are staring these phenomena in face and refusing to recognize them, like, that's your whole theory of change out the window my man.

Florida Dems are so messed up they can’t even win the Jacksonville mayorship If a state Democratic Party ever gets to the point where it cannot win a heavily contested mayoral election in a major city, then it’s well and truly curtains. Might as well be Idaho

Umberto Eco famously said that one of the problems with fascist analysis is that they see their enemies as simultaneously overwhelmingly strong and extremely weak.

A lot of contemporary left analysis just seems to see their enemies as overwhelmingly - omnipotently - strong durable and large right wing populist followings does not mean an invincible and monolithic coalition that will inevitably trample bourgeois politics, this is getting ridiculous. They have wedges and weaknesses like any other coalition.

Thinking about the Cotham debacle more, and the more I do the more it strikes me that this is not an idiosyncratic event but a modern casualty of the end of the parochial and dynasty state-level elected, the nationalization of politics is something they can't cope with. This isn't like 2005, this isn't a rural conservadem trying to survive, she's the heir to an NC Democratic dynasty, used to wide deference and latitude. Hard nowadays -such things are less tolerated by both sides- basically impossible when here's a one vote margin for everything.

I think one of the leading stories at the last four - six years is that Republicans just genuinely do not *know* what their coalition is, they were completely unaware of the reasons for their own strength, and now are equally unaware of the reasons for their own weakness. First, the obvious, if you have no notion what your coalition is, you cannot effectively target it, or look for ways to expand it. This has consequences at election time.

This is so goofy and brazen to do it for one senate election only and then sunset it Interested to see the final senate vote on this, Daines may be staking a lot of capital on it.

However, anyone hoping for blowback about a state level bill like this ending up in the Senate race a year from now is insane.
