There is something I need to get off my chest. A few days ago, @fordnation said that comparing the hiring of OPP officers to funding a safe school reopening is like comparing apples and oranges. He then went on to compare teachers returning to work to supermarket workers during the height of the pandemic. I believe he said that it is time for teachers to step up now. I think that is a little like comparing apples and oranges.

I have been off twitter for a while, trying to stay away from all of the negativity surrounding public education. Now that OECTA’s deal has leaked, I am back to weigh in and put in my 2 cents. I am of 2 minds here. First, there are many strips still on the table. Why did teachers strike, give up about 3% pay, to accept worse conditions? It doesn’t seem to make sense.

I’m still confused when I read tweets from people who complain about teachers and their unions being selfish and hurting the kids. Do a little research. It isn’t hard to do. Our kids do it every day. I will try to make this simple. The @fordnation wants to reduce education spending by reducing education workers. Most people say “so what, classes are going to be bigger. No big deal.” Less teachers means less classes and less choice. In high school, 1 less teacher means 6 less classes in year.
