I find Warhammer 40k fans who want “female space marines” fascinating since they seem to posses a total lack of understanding of both Warhammer and how “art” responds to modern managerial political pressure. I will explain. 1/🧵 The question was never “can there be female space marines”, GW can make whatever bad changes it wants. “Female space marines” will happen eventually. However, this change will kill the Grim Dark setting, turning 40k into another generic sci-Fi property like the MCU. 2/🧵

Humility is good, no one can see the future. But count me among the respectful skeptics. While the progressive world-view is dying, I would be amazed if it doesn’t lash out a few more times. And each lash out will be increasingly extreme. Here’s why. 🧵 Saying “calling people racist no longer works” is tantamount to saying “racism no longer matters”, since the former is the enforcement mechanism for the latter. However, “racism matters” is a CORE religious principle of the post-war consensus, removing it has consequences 2/🧵

While I respect King Crocaduck (KC) as a good-faith actor. His project to define legitimate national identities is fundamentally flawed as it contains critical blind spots and standards working at cross-purpose. I’ll explain. 1/🧵 First, KC's two ambitions appear to be: 1. to define what is a sufficient condition for a legitimate ethnic/national identity, and 2. to revive what remains of American identity. A tall order. 2/🧵

Lol, well there goes another opportunity to “reach out”.

People ask me why I spend so much time with these Academic leftists who study the right-wing like @MattPolProf .

Really, it’s the dishonesty of their presentation, the Kayfabe. Do they believe it or are they grifting?🧵 Image Invariably, the presentation of their expertise relies on the idea that their work is an objective academic examination; both in what they are showing their readers and the conversations they are having with colleagues and students. This is merited work! 2/🧵

The New Atheists gained their victories over modern Christianity not by showing the world that it was false, but by showing the world that it was spirituality weak. 🧵 Spiritual weakness (not physical weakness) is the one deadly quality that destroys religions. Christianity was built by the spiritual strength of martyrdom. It was undone by people that slouched into the moral frame of modernity 2/🧵

I want to frame this last tweet by Existential Comics. It somehow perfectly capstones an entire era of the internet that I used to occupy.

I must remember that here, but for the Grace of God, go I. 🧵 Image For those who don’t remember, EC was a “late to the party” web comic specializing in a certain genre: the pseudo high-brow strip.

Here the idea was to take a freshman-level intellectual concept, illustrate it in a silly context with exaggeration and breaking the 4th wall. 2/🧵

I always find this phenomenon fascinating in centrists, they talk about ideas as if the point of a conversation is to police boundaries rather than discover what is actually TRUE, and determine wise ways for managing a nation.

There are a lot of interesting implications here.🧵 Centrists generally (be they IDW, anti-woke, or TERFS) are a singular phenomenon playing out in a variety of different ways.

The centrist RATIONALLY understands that the left is insane, but can’t EMOTIONALLY cope with what a true rejection of it’s ideas would looks like. 2/🧵

This tweet deserves to be preserved as one of the great “moments in Boomerism”, an example of how sincere political ideas becoming trolling.

It isn’t an argument, it’s a dare. 🧵 First, with the initial cases, the author demonstrates that he understands the situation. Group differences exist, they don’t necessarily correspond to individuals, and they don’t imply differences in moral worth. All bludgeons used by the left, deflected here. 2/🧵

Reading this latest by Auron, I am reminded again of @DamonLinker . Linker was someone who I read at the height of my “moderate” phase. I liked him as an “ex-conservative” because he showed consideration over the neo-con position on Iraq, breaking ranks with his own side. 🧵 I thought Linker was the kind of person who changed their opinion based on what they saw, the way I thought dialectics SHOULD work. I thought he would be able to see abuses in the “moderate” mainstream (just as he saw them in the right) and shift his position. But he didn’t. 2/🧵

A very silly review of Pat Deneen by @DamonLinker demonstrating that centrists have nothing interesting to say in 2023.

As usual, Linker claims to understand the critiques in play, then arrives at a conclusion that demonstrates he does NOT actually understand the critiques. 🧵 Since there is the possibility the author is reading. I will lay out my response.

Starting with the problems in the modern West: high crime, social collapse, suicide, economic crisis, family disillusion, despair.

Everyone can see this in the data and in their lives. 2/🧵

Some are criticizing my recent conversation with Dr McManus but I learned a lot. I want to do an "After action Thread" with the main points. I will tag @MattPolProf as courtesy but this thread will be the last thing I have to say in the matter. 🧵

Lesson 1: Libertinism not Socialism is what drives the left.

Haidt was wrong, care/harm values are a pretense. The left is driven by antinomian, (what they call "emancipatory") values. Including those things which would cause harm to both the collective and the individual. 2/🧵

The more I think about it, the more “The Right Stuff, Dating App” represents everything wrong with modern “right-wing” alternatives.

Starting with how it totally adopts the frame and presuppositions of the progressive mainstream. 🧵 At a basic level, post sex-rev, the simplest “relationship unit” you can sell is “the date”. In previous generations dates escalated to marriage, but post-Millennials, dates are now autonomous.

And this is perfect for dating apps, more trivial dates, means more units sold! 2/🧵

It’s an open question to what extent it’s worth it to engage with these “David-French” style arguments about “principled” unilateral disarmament in the culture war.

Some thoughts…🧵 First, these “principled” classical liberals talk a good game in monologue. They always do because they get funding and don’t deign to talk to us dissident who have day jobs vulnerable to “cancellation” (that is when they aren’t organizing those cancellations) 2/🧵

In Schmitt's words, politics is "Friend-Enemy". But how can we “find our frens” among the anonymous inter-webs? Here are the things I look for, the “Fren Manifesto” in 20 parts. 🧵 Image Frens follow an ordered moral system consistent with the humanity's survival, independence, and communion with a Higher Power. 1/🧵 Image

I pinned this to my profile bc I think it captures the reality of our devastated political discourse. Why so few people, with things to say, can find things to say that seem relevant. Once more, the fundamental asymmetry of our situation. It’s the center (boomer) left who nuked discourse bc they see its absence as the only way to maintain power, the only way “sanity can be maintained” as some blithering imbecile like Andrew Sullivan would put it.

Time for PSA to the young Zoomers out there.

Just as broadcasting one's sexuality is ultimately destructive for young women, broadcasting one's sexual appetite is ultimately destructive for young men. 1/🧵 It's hard to know how many men need to hear this. But your particular "taste" in women (while relevant to your dating strategy), is not going to signal your eligibility as a mate. I think this was common wisdom once, but many have taken the opposite message. 2/🧵

Speaking of bad takes, Uncle Yarv is in rare form today. highlighting, again, his one BIG intellectual mistake, this time in spades:

graymirror.substack.com/p/you-can-only…

Since I don't have time to write up a review on substack, maybe a classic tweet thread? 1/ The BIG mistake of Yarvin is the forgivable generational error, where thinkers assume that the dynamics they witnessed when younger are the same dynamics playing out today. In particular you can see this in Yarvin's attitude towards the ruling (progressive) class. 2/
