While we're changing our understanding of bigotry to being about what you do rather than who you are, how about we also change our understanding of empathy vs. compassion in the same way? By "empathy" here, I am specifically talking about affective empathy. The state of participating in another person's emotion. This experience is itself an emotion, which means it's involuntary. And involuntary states have no moral value.
