🧵Update on the Danish government formation: As had been expected, the king has appointed Mette Frederiksen (A) as formateur. She says she is now aiming to form a government consisting of A, F, M, and B.

She says "intensive" negotiations will begin tomorrow. Here is what parties recommended to the king:

A, F, M, Ø, B, and Å recommended that Mette Frederiksen (A) be appointed formateur.

V, O, I, C, Æ, and H recommended that Troels Lund Poulsen (V) be appointed formateur.

🧵One thing that has been discussed during the Danish election is the question of what government will be formed after the election. I am using an average of recent polls, to visualize what options might be possible:
🟥 Red Bloc 86 seats
🟦 Blue Bloc 80 seats
🟪 M 9 seats Image In addition, there are 4 seats elected on the Faroe Islands and in Greenland. These MPs have exactly the same weight as all others when it comes to government formation and have been used in the past to determine who had a majority.

I want to give an overview of the 2024 European Parliament election in Denmark and what the political situation is going into the election on Sunday.

This thread will be a long one, so be prepared.🧵 Background
On 26 May 2019, the 2019 EP election was held in Denmark. That election, which was held less than two weeks before the 2019 general election, saw record turnout and substantial changes to the partisan composition of the MEPs elected in Denmark. (2)
