I was working at Glasgow Uni @UofGUrbStudies at the time of the Glasgow Stock Transfer (GST). It seemed an eminently sensible idea back then, releasing an astonishing £4bn of public funds for social housing renov. 1/7 But there was always a degree of controversy which remains even now -- e.g. this recent blog (livingrent.org/glasgow_stock_…) claiming GST = privatisation by stealth. Others argued that more could have been achieved with £4bn, perhaps more targetted skills training & job creation.

Our new paper on the employment impacts of immigration is just out in Urban Studies: bit.ly/35iBgt7 with @DanOlner & B.Fingleton. I guess it’s not a great day to have a paper published! But our findings do have relevance for the next phase of Brexit in 2 ways:

1/6 (i) we find strong evidence of net +ive impact of EU migrants on employment. Corollary: provides an imperative for Boris’s proposed points-based immigration system to take this into account? @jdportes @MigObs
