When Pushyamitra Shunga revolted against the Mauryan Empire in 185 BCE & its existing Buddhist order to restore the Vedic faith by assassinating the Emperor & taking control, he did so to restore "a collection of random identities and belief systems grouped together by British". In 1018-26, Mahmud of Ghaznavi destroyed the temples at Somnath and Mathura because they were representative of a "collection of random identities and belief systems grouped together by British".
