Growing up, my mother would keep slipping up pronouns. It never made sense to me, growing up: she'd been speaking it for well over a decade before I turned 10, why can't she get this one thing right?
Simple: Tagalog, her native language, is incredibly gender neutral.
See it wasn't really on her. She wasn't doing anything wrong, and still doesn't. The first language she learned was one that didn't give as much attention to gender as her second one, English. The pronouns she learned would more refer to person than to their specific gender.

“Nostalgia has a way of blocking the reality of the past.”
― Shannon L. Alder
My father is in his 50s now. He was a kid during the hay day of D&D, and he played it through High School, and during his time in the military when stationed in Germany. I grew up on his stories.
He played a swordswoman who was proclaimed as a prince by her people. This is my first exposure to calling women by male gendered title, and I dig it. Its cool, to me. Its ostensibly my first exposure to not being restricted by gender roles and norms.

ARTIST CALL, A BIT STRANGE, PLEASE READ EVERYTHING.
Leave portfolios or recommendations in replies to this tweet. Description of what I need in reply tweets.
Need to get an artist who can do characters and environment set pieces using bright colors using specific palette: focus on blue, purple, pink and white with green/yellow/orange/red as highlights. Looking for bright and friendly vibes. Little/no blending.

So lets be clear, from the man who is finally fulfilling a Kickstarter five years late and incomplete:
- Says that being old-fashioned or anti-modern is the reason that some artists/designers were "dissed"
- He has scoffed at the concept of gender identity
- Refers to modern day D&D and WotC, in the context of trying to separate from old ethics and style of play, as joining a pack of lemmings
- Going to court against his late father's last wife for control of his father's IPs and products

cw mental illness, depression, suicide.
Its both mental health awareness month and AAPI heritage month, so if there's any month where I pretty much have leeway to get personal and talk about my life, its this one.
I'm going to get very personal.
Long thread.
In 2007 a paper was published: Suicidal Behavior in Children Younger than Twelve: A Diagnostic Challenge for Emergency Department Personnel. It states, suicide is one of the leading causes of death in children 12 and younger. Between boys and girls, its a 3:1 ratio.
Today I'm gonna talk about the Tikbalang its history to give an idea of how dense some of this stuff is to filter through and research.
I'll be doing a giveaway of the Avernus Dice & Miscellany box. Info to win at the end of the thread.
So the current image of the Tikbalang is that of a strong, muscular bipedal horse monster, sometimes demon, and sometimes its referred to as a creature, sometimes as a specific entity. But this over muscular, brutish image is relatively new, popularized by comics in the 1990s.
