Learning Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Egyptian, and Coptic. A thread.

Disclaimer: this is how I best learn languages and how I think languages are best learned, but different strokes will work for different folks.

I try to provide resources for all fiscal abilities. Greek

1. Learn the alphabet! Know it forwards and backwards (literally). I set alarms at 3AM when I tried to learn it, and wake up to write it forwards and backwards. (see, )

2. Start committing this list to memory (see, dcc.dickinson.edu/greek-core-list)

I think one should learn Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and Coptic for no other reason than to read religious texts and analyze how the syntax of that language impacts the theological thought and vice versa, especially in comparison to English. The example most use is with Hebrew verbs, which is a fine example.

I think for Coptic, one of the interesting elements is the preservation of the way that conjunctives work from Demotic and the pace that that gives the texts (i.e. a sense of urgency in some ways).
