Just wanted to share quickly how lovely yesterday felt in Southport; a total contrast to the night before. 🧵

The mosque and people’s garden walls were rebuilt by builders and bricklayers volunteering their time and labour: Image "We're local lads, we've lived in Southport our whole lives," Joesph Wood, 37, from Craig Prince brickwork said.

“I have friends who go to the mosque, and I just can't believe it really. It's a sad day in Southport." Image

I’ll be in court today as a woman is sentenced for ending her pregnancy beyond the time limit during lockdown.

It is understood that she was not able to attend a scan, and did not know how advanced it was.

She pleaded guilty to the offence, which carries a max. life sentence. The sentencing hearing is underway.

The Crown’s case is that the woman knew she was over the time limit, and knowingly provided false information.

Mr. Price, for the prosecution, tells the court that the woman had known she was pregnant for around three months.

I’m sorry but Rishi is giving me Apprentice candidate.

Kept expecting to hear him drop in a “Sir Alan”. Don’t even know what I’m getting from Penny Mourdant. Think I feel asleep briefly.

On Friday, a young mother was sent to trial, standing accused of taking abortion pills illegally. She faces life in prison.

Next week, another woman is in court accused of taking the pills too late. She also faces life in prison.

In England. In 2022.

thetimes.co.uk/article/2d9c20… Doctors told me that they are concerned about a rise in police investigations.

In some cases, women are falling under suspicion because they have had a natural miscarriage or stillbirth.

The fact that they have considered a termination at an earlier point is used against them.

Finally got around to reading this, and while he makes some interesting points, I think it ultimately falls down on this:

The story is going to be in the paper *anyway*, and it’s about whether or not the family is given any input into that.

(🧵please read on before arguing!) I’m not really talking about huge news events here, but for say a murder: the family won’t know you’ve got a police press release, they won’t know you’ve seen the tributes from friends on Facebook and are aware who the victim is, and that the story will be in the paper tomorrow.

PM says we're now approaching the fast growth part of the outbreak: "without drastic action cases could double every 5 or 6 days."

If anyone in the household has a high temperature or lasting cough everyone in that household should isolate for 14 days. Everyone should now stop unnecessary social contact with others - avoid pubs, clubs and theatres the PM has said.

All non-essential travel should be avoided.

Would anyone like my recipe for Cambodian pumpkin soup that you can make even with a carving pumpkin? I just made it and it is delicious! 🎃 🥣 Okay recipe is:
-Chop your pumpkin innards into chunks & roast in the oven with some veg oil
-Meanwhile chip a medium-large white onion, 2 red chillis, a peeled thumb-sized piece of ginger, 3 cloves of garlic
-Heat a large glug of veg oil in a big big pan & fry it all until soft

From 1922 to PLP... it looks like a pretty packed meeting. Jeremy Corbyn is speaking tonight. Lisa Forbes has apologised to the PLP for liking those Facebook posts. Only 30 MPs turned up to her welcome photo this afternoon. Most lukewarm reception for a new MP from their own party to date?

Jewish Labour/Co-op MPs left the ASLEF/Co-op party at #Lab18 because Marc Wadsworth was inside.

Luciana Berger left & Ruth Smeeth turned around at the door. The event was invite only.

Source says she asked Co-op staff to ask him to leave, but they didn’t as he was ASLEF’s guest Source tells me Wadsworth was there with ASLEF boss and Labour NEC member Tosh McDonald.
