This is shameful. @MickBarryTD has traduced, in the Dáil, an Irish therapeutic professional, falsely attributing to her views on the trans gender community which the evidence shows she does not hold. 1/7
Barry represented @stellaomalley3 as having “messaged” that people should have no empathy or sympathy for the trans community. This is emphatically not the case. Stella sends no such message, as is clear from the audio clip Barry wrongly quoted from. 2/7

On Nov 20th, Trans Day of Remembrance, an Open Letter was published which provoked quite the reaction.

Amnesty Ireland, a signatory, later posted that criticism of the Letter used “decontextualising phrases”.

So, let’s contextualise! 1/12 The ostensible reason for the letter, published by Gay Community News, was a laudable one, that “trans people should be included fully in society”.

However, the admirable call for “solidarity for our trans siblings” was in the service of wider & quite worrying aims. 2/12

Time men S.W.A.M against the tide.

Bizarrely, there’s now an urgent need to Save ‘Woman’ And ‘Mother’ from being erased from the English language. Am I naive in hoping men on Irish Twitter might take an interest in these worrying developments? ‘Woman’ & ‘Mother’ are useful words that have served us well in describing, well, women & mothers. They should not be scrubbed from usage especially by organisations established to support women & mothers, such as @HSELive, @AIMSIreland, Abortion Rights Ireland.
