The world going forward will have 2 main power centres - USA and China. There was a time when most manufacturing in USA was domestic. Companies had long term vision. Value creation was more important than valuation. Then came the era of VC/PE funds and fat bonuses for CEOs. ESOPs ruled. Most of the CEOs were interested in short term revenue boosting. This way higher share prices & greater bonuses. PEs were happy as faster growth meant quicker exits at good multiples. Outsourcing began. First the unimportant, then the important and oftentimes the v important.

As we went back centuries, systems of government and explored the relation between wars and trade.. it was eye opening. Some of it we were aware of. But seeing it come alive was both exhilarating and humbling. One of the biggest learning was we don’t really know anything. There are far bigger powerful factors at play which operate in the shadows.
