Varahi is one of the Sapta Matruka Goddesses. They are widely seen in Odisha which was once a flourishing site of Matruka worship. However a Varahi murti with her two lookalike lady attendants by her sides is very rare to find. This iconography can be seen in the Gangeswari Temple, Bayalishbati, Gop, Puri where in one of the Parswadeva niches Varahi is seen along with two of her lookalike female attendants.

There is a pillar in the premises of the Somnath Temple, known as Baan Stambh (Arrow Pillar) and this arrow points to the South Pole and from here to the South Pole, there is no land mass in between. It is difficult to say when this pillar was constructed. History books have a mention of this pillar somewhere in the sixth century, which proves that it may have constructed prior to that time.

Its the inscription on the pole, which is intriguing:

Dantidurga II & Avanijanashraya Pulakeshin confronted the Arab forces in Navsari in a battle described as fierce. The might of Arab forces can be well conjectured by the fact that the same troops plundered Sindh,Kutch,Saurashtra, Chavolakas, and Gurjara kingdoms by then (later, most of the rulers united and the combined army defeated the Arabs in the north). The strength of Dantidurga was perceptible by his later victories and the establishment of the Rashtrakuta empire.
