Despite what Bernie & his acolytes may think, it's not ideological purity that Dems should be aiming for. Winning elections is the key to making a positive difference for real people, and ideological flexibility nationally allows the party to appeal to different constituencies.
This is to acknowledge Dems' nature as a big tent where those of different ideological views can coexist. Biden's health care plan is indicative of this, allowing private health care to exist while expanding the public option so everyone has access to affordable health insurance.

Reflecting on the lessons of the Trump era, one critical point seems to be that Americans must develop a stronger attachment to democracy & the constitution as an end in itself, rather than merely the fruits of democracy (such as various policies that benefit them & their group).
The hideous and criminal acts of Trump and his coterie were many, but the clearest and most egregious were his multiple and massive violations of democratic and constitutional norms, and yet these seem to be the ones that figure least in the judgments of most voters.

I'd say Trump's moves today were filler, rather than a real move in the game. He's trying to undermine the entire election (as he's been doing for some time) at the same time as claiming victory, but he sounded like he's waiting for the outcome of the litigation route for now.
Both the counting & litigation route won't pan out for him, of course. Biden's win will be litigation proof, as he seems almost certain to have NV/PA in the bag, which provides at least a one state cushion, and he's competitive in AZ/GA as well & could take at least one of these.

Dems and others opposed to Trump must start strategizing now for what their game-plan will be to save the republic if Dems fail to take control of Congress in the midterms, under the suspicious circumstances of a full-blown Russian influence campaign and voting irregularities.
The prospect for being able to save democracy and the constitutional framework without a midterm victory is, frankly, dismal. If the GOP manage to retain control of Congress, no impeachment or check on executive power will be possible at least until 2020.
