Someone should probably tell the rich that workers banding together to present formal address of grievances is the alternative we worked out a long time ago to breaking down the factory owner's front door and beating him to death in front of his family? I feel like they forgot.
Alternately we could just go ahead and start killing them again, I'm also fine with that at this point. Running Elon Musk down his own assembly line with all the safety features turned off would probably do some good for the world.
The Romans had this shit worked out a long time ago. They did the whole bread and circuses thing because the plebs had a WELL-DOCUMENTED tendency to start killing and occasionally eating Senators when they got sufficiently up against the wall and pissed off about it.
Video game culture is a toxic swamp that will apologize infinitely for racism and misogyny, full stop, and this will remain the case until its top influencers begin treating such behavior as unacceptable.
Let's talk about 2009 and the fighting game community for a minute!
So the first thing to understand about the fighting game community (FGC) is that it significantly predates eSports as an organized competitive gaming community, and is still to this day a weird independent grassroots thing, and it is VERY good at being that.
Partly this is because there have always been passionate members of the community willing to shoulder the work of organizing tournaments and handling infrastructure for competition for sheer love of the game. Partly it's because a few of those people happen to be millionaires.
Seeing some folks I follow circulating a point that's worth drawing a bit of attention to. One of the oldest canards in low-denominator comedy is that women are inscrutable and men can't understand them. There's a reason for this and it ain't funny.
By the time a man reaches adulthood he has probably heard that women constantly say one thing and mean another, and that they are impossible to understand, at least a thousand times. To some extent he probably believes this to be true.
And to a degree it is. Women VERY frequently say one thing and mean another, display expressions or reactions that don't jibe with their feelings, and so on. But it's actually really easy to decode once you understand why it happens. It is survival behavior.
This is for the guys out there. Hi dudes. If you're like me, you were raised with all the nuanced social graces of a water buffalo on bath salts. Maybe right now you are afraid you'll say something or just be standing next to the wrong person and then an angry mob will kill you.
I can't promise this won't happen, although keep in mind that if it does it is PROBABLY because you did something fucking stupid that didn't seem stupid at the time. Anyway, here's the thing you really need to be aware of when the OH GOD THEY'RE COMING FOR ME response kicks in.
Men-- I primarily mean cis men here, trans men are also equally men but often have different early-life social training-- are not socialized to deal with being attacked the same way women are. Women learn a wide range of threat responses; for them, it's a matter of survival.
