This.

There’s no state in this country without unjust laws, w people fighting against them. Listen to what they need and help their cause. If you don’t know enough, help groups locally who’re fighting for that cause.

“Let’s boycott these 13 states!” reeks of lazy privilege. Sharing on social media that you plan to boycott states you had no intention of visiting anyway is the same energy of dudes proudly “boycotting Hobby Lobby” who’ve never picked up a craft in their lives.

It’s the emptiest of platitudes.
“Do nothing to change the world.”

@jediabetical @betacellpodcast Yes. I was hired for a job I was very qualified to do, deploying to Antarctica on an NSF-funded project.

I’ve spent >6 mos of my life camped in the deep field on ice sheets maintaining equipment I’ve personally designed & built. I was over-qualified for the position.
1/
@jediabetical @betacellpodcast The NSF rejected my PQ 100% on the grounds I was diabetic, even though my sugars were under perfect control & I had a long track record of maintaining my health on the ice w/ 0 issues.

I appealed. They re-rejected me. I talked to some NSF program managers who were concerned.

25*10^22 J is too big a number to wrap your head around. I wanna figure out other ways to express this.

It takes about ~921 MJ to heat up and melt a 1000 kg steel car. You could *melt* 250 trillion autos, or 250,000x the number of all cars on the world’s roads today (~1B cars). Let’s say you weren’t satisfied with melting cars but wanted to boil them completely (~7.84 GJ to heat, melt at 1538 °C & boil at ~3000 °C). *poof*

You could vaporize the entire global fleet of a billion autos with that much heat, and have enough left over to do it 31,900x more.

I’m Type-1 diabetic, my pancreas quit when I was 10, and this fills me with equal parts rage & existential dread.

The clearest example of the American medical system being rigged is the way COMPETING fast-acting insulin prices have risen.

Brief thread. 1/ Background: Insulin is a necessary enzyme allowing sugar to enter your cells. You eat carbs, blood fills w/ sugar, pancreas makes insulin, sugar passes into your cells where it’s burned for energy. Without it your blood fills up with sugar, nowhere to go. Without it, you die.
