Abd is an Arabic word which literally means "servant" or "slave" depending on its usage. Muslims bear names like Abdullah & Abdur-Rahman which means "Servant of Allah" & "Servant of the Most Merciful". A Muslim is a servant of God Whom he/she serves in worship & by submission.
Having Abd as a prefix is recommended for all names that are direct names of attributes of God. Hence, for one to answer names or attributes of God such as Allah, ar-Rahmān, ar-Rahīm, the prefix "Abd" must be added to indicate submission to the One whom one aligns one's own name.

Apparently, the Yorùbá Isese worshippers consider Islam the only threat in Yorùbá-land to their campaigns in Yorùbá-land. They've been making very serious efforts to distort the understanding of Yorùbá Muslims and mislead them away from Islam.
It has become imperative that scholars who have the means must use them to teach true understanding of Tawhīd to their audience.
Keynotes: 1. The verse is a statement that contains the essence of Islam, the creed of a Muslim and the entirety of the message of Tawhīd;
2. It is a covenant between Allah and His servant (the Muslim), a convent to faith and trust, an agreement to submit fully to Him by accepting His command and decrees and living according to His laws;
3. It is a rejection of all forms of sorcery, magic, idolatry, seeking a blessing or wealth or protection or fortification from others Bessie Allah;
4. It is an expression that explains the meaning of lā ilāha illā Allah. It is in fact a codification of the expression go Tawhīd and Shahādah;
5. It is a submission, trust, confession and prayer. By saying it, one submits fully to Allah, confesses his or her weaknesses and the need for Allah's help and the actual prayer of asking Allah for help because one would not ask or be able to ask others except Allah;
6. Every command to serve Allah and reject tāghūt (idols, humans, saints and all other things people worship beside God) in the Qur'ān with hundreds of the verses revealed by Allah in it are all embedded in the verse 5 of Sūrah al-Fātihah;
7. A good understanding of this verse will help a Muslim to protect him/herself against all forms of Shirk and Kufr, preserve his/her Tawakkul (absolute reliance on Allah) and strengthen his/her relationship with Allah.
When the servant of Allah reads this verse, Allah responds by saying "this is between Me and my servant". Hence, it is a point of communion. When reciting al-Fātihah, a Muslim must feel greater presence of Allah at verse 5 and notice an attachment from his/her heart to Allah as if he/she is communicating with someone visibly present with Him. Indeed, Allah is always present with us by His might and knowledge and nothing escapes His sight and He is High above all things and all places.
May Allah grant us the understanding of this verse and bless us with its virtues. Āmīn 🤲.
Pages of the Glorious Qur'ān today, Tuesday 16/4/24 (7 Shawwāl 1445AH), Sūrah al-Baqarah (2): 1-16, Tafakkur verse 2: 14.
Theme: The hypocrites assume that they deceive Allah and the believers
"And when they meet those who believe, they say, We believe; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers".
Keynotes: 1. The belief in the Oneness of Allah and His Messenger (SAW) as the seal and final Prophet send to all of humankind and Jinn will not be complete without absolute sincerity and submission in the open and in the secret.
2. Allah demands that a believer shines every act or beliefs that are capable of nullifying his or her faith such as mixing Islam with Kufr by being half-Muslim/half-Kāfir - one who though observed Ṣalāh and answers as a Muslim but he or she is also engrossed in soothsaying, magic, witchcraft, cultism and charms. Such a person believes and hopes that without the additional fortifications that he or she supposedly gets from those associations, his or her belief in Allah and Ṣalāh will not be enough to protect him or her.
3. Those who have the character explained above are closer to Kufr. If the belief becomes entrenched in them and they do not desist or repent until they die upon it, they died as Kuffār even if the world assumed that they were Muslims.
4. When the word of Allah or authentic Sunnah of RasūluLlah (SAW) about which there is no iota of doubt is recited to a Muslim, his or her duty is to listen, obey and follow. The life of a Muslim is not guided by whims and desire. A Muslim does not cherry pick what pleases him from the commands of Allah. A Muslim strives to obey every command and shun every prohibition and take caution where there is uncertainty. A Muslim constantly fears falling into error and makes efforts to seek closeness to Allah.
5. A Muslim should never make mockery of the word of Allah either in part or whole or disrespect the symbols that reflect the oneness of Allah such as the Ka'bah, the Qur'ān, the Masjid and so on.
May Allah protect us all from every form of Kufr, preserve our Īmān and grant us the grace to be admitted into the ranks of the true believers in the hereafter. Āmīn 🤲.

"And Allāh invites to the Home of Peace [i.e., Paradise] and guides whom He wills to a straight path".
With Islam, the religion of peace, Allah invites us all to the Home of Peace. Jannah is the only true place where one could rest in peace and Jannah is prepared only for those who submitted fully to Allah and His Messenger SAW, obeying His commands and living righteously.

وإذا مس الإنسان الضر دعانا لجنبه أو قاعدا أو قائما فلما كشفنا عنه ضره مر كأن لم يدعنا إلى ضر مسه كذلك زين للمسرفين ما كانوا يعملون
"And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the extravagant that which they used to do".

Q5: 90
"O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allāh], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful (in the hereafter by achieving eternity in Jannah)".

The barbarity of jungle justice in the name of Islam often committed by some sets of people in the North of Nigeria is absolutely inexcusable. On what basis is a person adjudged to have blasphemed? Does the Islamic law permit anyone to carry out a supposed justice in that manner?
Muslim leaders in the North, learned scholars, political heads and local Imams must do better to help put this barbarity to a final end. The North has Hisbah and courts of Shariah. Why aren't the courts allowed to do proper investigation and pronounce the right judgement?

It is a bad error to think Yoruba is inherently opposite of Islam. Yoruba is a language, a culture and representation of one of the largest ethnic nationalities in the world. Islam is a religion that came into Yoruba-land, the coming of which Yoruba tradition believe was foretold
Kings and rulers of our land since ancient times welcomed the religion without a fight and entertained her scholars (many of whom were also traders) in their palaces. Gradually, from advisors to kings, Muslim scholars became consultants for people, teachers, and spiritual healers

Islam is the only religion known to mankind that has a maxim like al-'āddah muhakkamah which implies that custom is a basis of law. Islam does not seek to colonise people or impose an alien culture on anyone. Islam naturally blends with every culture it comes in contact with...
Islam reforms, helps the Muslims to sieve the culture of their various peoples, make it better and preserve the best of it. In fact, one of the reasons many West Africans accepted Islam over 500years ago was due to its dynamism and the huge respect it has for native culture.

Yoruba does not have a direct translation for the word/name Shaytān (Satan). Eṣu in the traditional Yoruba does not equate Shaytān. This is why our fathers in Yoruba-land would say "Aṣitāni" when translating Shaytān.
Eṣu was a man who Yoruba mythology says became a deity.
Yoruba tradition holds that Eṣu was a man who was cunny and powerful. Like Ogun and others, he became a deity that is often appeased & used as an agent for discord & conflict. This is why they say "Eṣu ma ṣemi, ọmọ ẹlomi ni ki o ṣe" as a way of diverting its anger/curse.
