Pages of the Qur'ān today, 14/8/23. Sūrah Yūnus (10): 15-25, Tafakkur 10: 25
وَٱللَّهُ یَدۡعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ دَارِ ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُ إِلَىٰ
صِرَ ٰ⁠طࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ
"And Allāh invites to the Home of Peace [i.e., Paradise] and guides whom He wills to a straight path".





With Islam, the religion of peace, Allah invites us all to the Home of Peace. Jannah is the only true place where one could rest in peace and Jannah is prepared only for those who submitted fully to Allah and His Messenger SAW, obeying His commands and living righteously.

وإذا مس الإنسان الضر دعانا لجنبه أو قاعدا أو قائما فلما كشفنا عنه ضره مر كأن لم يدعنا إلى ضر مسه كذلك زين للمسرفين ما كانوا يعملون





"And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the extravagant that which they used to do".

{یُرِیدُونَ أَن یُطۡفِـُٔوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفۡوَ ٰ⁠هِهِمۡ وَیَأۡبَى ٱللَّهُ إِلَّاۤ أَن یُتِمَّ نُورَهُۥ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ}





Q9: 32
"They want to extinguish the light of Allāh with their mouths, but Allāh refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it".

{ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمۡوَ ٰ⁠لِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ أَعۡظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ}





Q9: 20
"The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allāh with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allāh. And it is those who are the attainers [of success]".

{ إِذۡ یَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ غَرَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ دِینُهُمۡۗ وَمَن یَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ }





Q8: 49
"(Remember) when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "their religion has deluded those [Muslims]". But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise".

{قَدۡ جَاۤءَكُم بَصَاۤىِٕرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَمَنۡ أَبۡصَرَ فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ عَمِیَ فَعَلَیۡهَاۚ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ عَلَیۡكُم بِحَفِیظࣲ}





Q6: 104
"There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], I am not a guardian over you".

{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ لَا یَضُرُّكُم مَّن ضَلَّ إِذَا ٱهۡتَدَیۡتُمۡۚ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا فَیُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ}





Q5: 105
"O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allāh is your return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do".

{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡخَمۡرُ وَٱلۡمَیۡسِرُ وَٱلۡأَنصَابُ وَٱلۡأَزۡلَـٰمُ رِجۡسࣱ مِّنۡ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ فَٱجۡتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ}





Q5: 90
"O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allāh], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful (in the hereafter by achieving eternity in Jannah)".

The barbarity of jungle justice in the name of Islam often committed by some sets of people in the North of Nigeria is absolutely inexcusable. On what basis is a person adjudged to have blasphemed? Does the Islamic law permit anyone to carry out a supposed justice in that manner? Muslim leaders in the North, learned scholars, political heads and local Imams must do better to help put this barbarity to a final end. The North has Hisbah and courts of Shariah. Why aren't the courts allowed to do proper investigation and pronounce the right judgement?

It is a bad error to think Yoruba is inherently opposite of Islam. Yoruba is a language, a culture and representation of one of the largest ethnic nationalities in the world. Islam is a religion that came into Yoruba-land, the coming of which Yoruba tradition believe was foretold Kings and rulers of our land since ancient times welcomed the religion without a fight and entertained her scholars (many of whom were also traders) in their palaces. Gradually, from advisors to kings, Muslim scholars became consultants for people, teachers, and spiritual healers

Q5: 8
{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّ ٰ⁠مِینَ لِلَّهِ شُهَدَاۤءَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ وَلَا یَجۡرِمَنَّكُمۡ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوۡمٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَلَّا تَعۡدِلُوا۟ۚ ٱعۡدِلُوا۟ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِیرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ}

Islam is the only religion known to mankind that has a maxim like al-'āddah muhakkamah which implies that custom is a basis of law. Islam does not seek to colonise people or impose an alien culture on anyone. Islam naturally blends with every culture it comes in contact with... Islam reforms, helps the Muslims to sieve the culture of their various peoples, make it better and preserve the best of it. In fact, one of the reasons many West Africans accepted Islam over 500years ago was due to its dynamism and the huge respect it has for native culture.

Yoruba does not have a direct translation for the word/name Shaytān (Satan). Eṣu in the traditional Yoruba does not equate Shaytān. This is why our fathers in Yoruba-land would say "Aṣitāni" when translating Shaytān.
Eṣu was a man who Yoruba mythology says became a deity. Yoruba tradition holds that Eṣu was a man who was cunny and powerful. Like Ogun and others, he became a deity that is often appeased & used as an agent for discord & conflict. This is why they say "Eṣu ma ṣemi, ọmọ ẹlomi ni ki o ṣe" as a way of diverting its anger/curse.

{مَّن كَانَ یُرِیدُ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا فَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ ثَوَابُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡـَٔاخِرَةِۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ سَمِیعَۢا بَصِیرࣰا} Q4: 134
"Whoever desires the reward of this world - then with Allāh is the reward of this world and the Hereafter. And ever is Allāh Hearing and Seeing".

{ وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ تَعَالَوۡا۟ إِلَىٰ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ رَأَیۡتَ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ یَصُدُّونَ عَنكَ صُدُودࣰا } Q4: 61
"And when it is said to them, Come to what Allāh has revealed and to the Messenger, you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion"

{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن تُطِیعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یَرُدُّوكُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَـٰبِكُمۡ فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِینَ} Q3: 149
"O you who have believed, if you follow (the path of) those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels (corrupt your faith and lead you into disbelief and transgression), and you will [then] become losers".

{وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ تَفَرَّقُوا۟ وَٱخۡتَلَفُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتُۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ} Q3: 105
"And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment".

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وهُمۡ كُفَّارࣱ فَلَن یُقۡبلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِم مِّلۡءُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَهبࣰا ولَوِ ٱفۡتَدَىٰ بِهِۦۤۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ Q3: 91
"Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers"
