I've developed a prototype of the chess engine of the future!

Chess engines developers seem to care only about making the strongest chess engine, not the most useful one. So I decided to create one myself. 🧵

1/ Image First, let's talk about chess evaluations.

There are only three objective evaluations in chess: White is winning, it's a draw, and Black is winning.

All the other evaluations (like "+=" or "+1.12") are subjective: they are only true for some player against some other player.

Seeing this tweet promoted by Elon Musk made me want to do the stats for France.

Top 5 men: 2812, 2720, 2673, 2637, 2610
Top 5 women: 2588, 2476, 2413, 2367, 2333

Definite proof that men have a (biological?) advantage at chess and especially in top-level competition?

Wait...
Image I lied. It's not chess in France. It's a heads or tails simulation.
100 women and 900 men start with $1800 and play 1000 rounds of heads or tails for $10 each
The results from the previous tweet are the average obtained after 1000 simulations
Are men better at flipping a coin?

How will the new anti-trans FIDE regulations affect the life of trans players? Let’s take the example of Zoe, a young -and fictive- trans girl. She is French and fully accepted by her parents. On a global scale, it’s as lucky as a trans person can get.

1/ Image At school and in her everyday life, everyone calls her by her feminine name and gender her properly. Most people don’t even know she is trans.

The answer to this question is complex and multi-factorial, with dynamic effects of vicious or virtuous circles. In short, the opposite of what Twitter is meant for. I will try anyway.

1/15 First of all, a country can be deeply sexist and paradoxically respect women's brains more than Western countries. There are more women than men in universities in Russia, Saudi Arabia, or Iran for example.

I wasn't surprised that I wasn't named as a defendant. Here are my thoughts about it.

1/6 Niemann only accused rich people and entities. I consider it a likely losing bet, but with a tiny possibility of a huge payoff, which is, btw, typical of someone in a desperate situation.

A few thoughts:

IF Hans Niemann has been cheating for that long without getting caught, he is the biggest cheating expert, and I really think that FIDE should consider employing him. 1/4 As pointed out by Caruana, it's possible to outsmart Ken Regan's algorithm.

According to Regan, only Feller had a +70 ROI.
Rausis never went above 64.

For Rausis the evidence was that every tournament was much above 50, but FIDE did nothing before he got caught red-handed. 2

I read and watched many things about Ken Regan's anti-cheat algorithm, here is how I think a cheater could easily beat it.

Not at all a mathematician, so if I'm mistaken, just prove me wrong. 1/5 Suppose a player who is 2500 without cheating and 2700 when cheating because they don't cheat on every move during games where he cheats. (a bit like Rausis...)

The trick is simply to flip a coin before every game to decide whether to cheat or not. 2/5

The war that is starting today reminds me that 18 years ago, as a 16-year-old in crisis, I went to live in Russia for a year.

After just a few hours in Putin's country (already!) I should have died in a terrorist attack that killed dozens of people. A small personal thread. 1/n Russia may seem a surprising choice for a French queer teenager, but I was then in denial and motivated primarily by a deep desire for change. My love of chess obviously helped my choice of country.
