Kohli was not "settling in" to accelerate at the end. He's made that mistake a number of times in the past, but not usually in the last 3-4 months. He didn't accelerate because he knew it wasn't his bowling style to attack.

T20 is not about getting from point A to point D using the same tactic. It is about getting from A to B with what is best for it, then B to C with another if necessary, and then C to D in the same manner.

Kohli was getting from point B to point C in the best way possible for India: by keeping his wicket intact in order to

Kohli's accelerating at the end isn't him compensating for dotting up earlier. He is not in the XI to attack the away spin duo of Nawaz and Shadab. He is in the XI to provide class, power, and range vs pace (one of the primary requirements to win in Australia) - and he was doing his job right from the very beginning. It was the rest of the team's responsibility to complement him, either with the lineup or on the field, which they failed to do. Batting works by balancing each other out. There is currently no complete T20 batter in the

Thoughts on the teams? This was played between some of the smartest people I know (sadly, I couldn't be part of it). Lucknow - I love the batting, the opening duo in particular. The bowling unit ticks a lot of boxes too, could have gone a notch higher with a even a part time offie to complement Bishnoi-Brar.

This is how I see it:

First choice-1st backup-2nd backup

Rohit-KL
Dhawan-Pant
Kohli-Iyer
Pant-Iyer
KL-Iyer-SKY
Hardik-SKY-Hooda
Jadeja-Axar-Sundar
Chahal-Sundar-Kuldeep
Thakur-Chahar
Siraj-Prasidh
Bumrah

*Prasidh might also start pushing for the Thakur-Chahar slot* If you understand this, you wouldn't cry about why Gaikwad isn't being a given a chance, why Shaw isn't being a chance, why Chahar was dropped etc.

Mentally, they were.

DK was dropped after Nidahas. Rayudu after a glorious year at No.4.
Iyer was completely out of the ODI setup after returning 40/96 till 2018.
Samson was told to be aggressive for the team's cause and Baahubaleed.
KL was mishandled too.

The list is endless You can't escape this. When players understand that the change is permanent, they will start talking. Just a matter of a year.

Amazing how many don't get any of what's happening. Hardik is taking back No.6 whenever he is fit. SKY is the first backup No.6.

Iyer is the first backup for Pant's spot. In this case, Iyer getting more game time is more valuable than the 2nd backup (Hooda) getting more time. 1st backup getting more game time is obviously more useful to the team than the 2nd backup playing in his spot.

Because for Hooda to play, both Hardik & SKY should get injured. For Iyer, only Pant.

Banton has been brilliant in the series. He just needs to tighten up his new ball game. If the ball does anything in the air or off the deck, he is almost always in the soup. Promising signs. For a while, it looked like he wasn't going anywhere.

LRT. Shaheen is not yet a consistently top class death bowler, but he will very soon be. Has all that a bowler needs for it:

Pace
Trust in yorkers (often to the extent by being unreasonable, which doesn't help)
Hard length
Slow ball variations
Brains He just needs to understand what to bowl at whom. Sometimes there are players & decks where you don't want to overdose on yorkers. Just not worth the risk.

There is a lot of class in this batting unit - Angrish, Rasheed & Dhull. I say this because usually U19 teams have a lot of support batters and one-dimensional accumulators, with one superstar or at max a couple. This one has two players who could control an innings and a multidimensional accumulator in Rasheed.

That's a luxury.

It should start with Geoffrey Boycott rubbishing the approach in the 2015 NZ bilateral and end with Eoin Morgan lifting the World Cup trophy. The jokes of 'New England' were very common in the first couple of years. And then they disappeared.

When I said this last year, there was a particular section of Indian fans who couldn't accept it. I hope they learnt their lesson in the World Cup.

Shaheen Afridi and Rashid Khan together in a limited overs team is as good as cricket can get. There is no topping it, not in any format.

Has Sarfaraz completely lost it? Why is he bowling so much spin at these two when he has 6 overs of Hasnain & Naseem? He was fortunate that the Qureshi over went for only 11. That's at least 4 short of what I was expecting.

No one is singularly responsible. Teams just don't fall off a cliff the first series after the previous management quits. If they do, it indicates that there was an already existing issue (which when you look at the last two overseas ODI results in AUS & NZ becomes obvious) 1/n You don't just come in & decide to drop everyone the previous management had tried. And it wasn't this one's fault too the previous one had given most of Gill, Shaw, Mayank, Pant, Iyer, Prasidh, Saini, Chahar, Thakur 3-5 chances each in total or broken and not 15-20 chances

This match, I see it as being rested. How they proceed further depends on how much they rate Sundar or whatever the Rohit-Ash love Q is, I guess.

The more important question for me is why are India playing an offie game in, game out - is it because they see it as a complementary option to the first spinner, who is likely to be an SLA/leggie? If so, surprisingly proactive.

The game is at a stage where there are a lot of left-handers who have crept in to counter wrist spin and you will have to react to it with bringing offies in.

Re Gaikwad, there are two different ways of looking at it:

Fix KL at 5 and give time for backup opening options in the build up to the WC.

Keep floating KL and give game time for backup middle order options, keeping in mind if any of Rohit/Dhawan becomes unavailable, KL can move up to opening and the middle order slot can be filled by Shreyas Iyer.

Given Iyer's stature and that the next WC is in India, it is understandable why India are inclined towards the second. Not sure why such a simple thing needs so much explanation.

When Angkrish makes it big, there is a lot of scope to work with his name....like he is ANGRYish. He starts Angkrish, but as the innings progresses, he gets Angryish.
