In the broad sense in which “reactionary” is commonly used, the Catholic Church is essentially a reactionary institution.
It does proactively prescribe and advance a way of life and a set of values, but in its capacity of dogmatic definition and dividing truth from errors worthy of condemnation, it is fundamentally reactionary (I dislike the purposeful ambiguity of this term).

Muck Farmers are lucky in this regard; we get physical activity, sunlight, proper sleep cycles, and although sometimes the work is tough, we don't get obese. Our environment inclines us to better health.
