"This is a seminal moment in the long campaign to end Direct Provision. We first called for Direct Provision to end shortly after it was introduced. It is a hugely criticised system with a wealth of reports and commentary on what is wrong with it. Now it is time to replace it. We welcome the report. It broadly reflects the Advisory Group recommendations and research we commissioned published in January."

1. Judicial review has long been a critically important corrective to defects in the Irish asylum procedure. E.g.:

-recognition of right to work
-overturning poor first instance and appeal decision making
-prompting the introduction of single procedure
-standard of proof 2. People seeking asylum are already treated differently in JR:

- separate list in High Court
- higher test and shorter time limits
- limited right to appeal (See Illegal Immigrants Act 2000 ⬇️ )

This Direction (bit.ly/2suGf8i) adds to those barriers to justice.
