Iran had invested billions in Syria, and it is all gone. This was a brutal dictatorship that trampled its citizens and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of them.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
"This is a historic day for the Middle East. The collapse of the Assad regime, the tyranny in Damascus, offers great opportunity but also is fraught with significant dangers.
This collapse is the direct result of our forceful action against Hezbollah and Iran, Assad's main supporters. It set off a chain reaction of all those who want to free themselves from this tyranny and its oppression.

Prime Minister Netanyahu:
“One year ago, Yahya Sinwar, the terrorist chief of Hamas, launched the October 7th massacre against Israel.
It was the bloodiest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. It was the worst attack on the Jewish state since the founding of Israel.
Sinwar’s terrorists murdered in cold blood 1,200 people. That's elderly people, Holocaust survivors, children.
They brutally raped women. They beheaded men. They burned babies alive.
And they took 251 women, men and children hostage to the dungeons of Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“Today, Israel is defending itself on 7 fronts against the enemies of civilization.
We are fighting in Gaza against Hamas, the savages who murdered, raped, beheaded and burned our people on October 7th.
We are fighting in Lebanon against Hezbollah, the most heavily armed terror organization in the world, which was planning an even greater massacre than October 7th on our Northern border, and that has rocketed Israeli towns and cities for nearly a year.

"I have a message for the people of Lebanon:
Israel's war is not with you.
It's with Hezbollah.
For too long, Hezbollah has been using you as human shields. It placed rockets in your living rooms and missiles in your garage.
Those rockets and missiles are aimed directly at our cities, directly at our citizens.
To defend our people against Hezbollah strikes, we must take out these weapons.

The fact that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has acceded to every American proposal for releasing the hostages despite the ultimatum from elements in the coalition completely refutes the claim that he has torpedoed any deal whatsoever due to political considerations.
On April 27th, the Prime Minister conveyed to the mediator a framework for releasing the hostages, which Secretary of State Blinken defined as being a very generous proposal.

"Since the beginning of the war, I have made it clear that we are in a fight against Iran's axis of evil. This is an existential war against a stranglehold of terrorist armies and missiles that Iran would like to tighten around our neck.
In my address to Congress several days ago, I noted that the three main arms of this axis of evil are Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah, the three H's.
We have recently struck crushing blows on each one.
