This weekend, a major right-wing conference is hosting several members of Parliament from far right European governments, including the AfD and the ruling party of Poland. I wrote about what it means, and why it matters: mic.com/articles/19133… If you haven't been closely watching the rise of right wing populism in Europe, it's time to start paying attention. Anti-Muslim and anti-immigration parties are gaining major footholds in parliamentary elections. Last week was Sweden's turn. cnn.com/2018/09/10/eur…

Berkeley Police have a special policy for doxxing arrested protesters on Twitter, including names, photos and other personal information, according to emails obtained by @lucyparsonslabs mic.com/articles/19131… Publishing mugshot photos of arrested anti-racist protesters isn't just something police in Berkeley do, either. @SamTLevin's documented the practice in St. Louis and Portland, too. theguardian.com/us-news/2018/a…

As of this morning, the staff of the New Yorker have unionized with the @nyguild. nym.ag/2JidwPf The New Yorker tried unionizing its staff in 1976, but were met with an incredibly personal fight from management, who had help from the country's top anti-union law firm.

Here are the two unionization letters side-by-side, 1976 and 2018: nplusonemag.com/issue-21/labor…

The emphasis here on Peterson's gender traditionalism gets to the heart of why so many people call Peterson a "fascist" — his concern over emasculation, "enforced monogamy" and terrible chaotic femininity. nytimes.com/2018/05/18/sty… In 1977, Klaus Theweleit published "Male Fantasies" a psychological study of fascism by looking at the Freikorps, the earliest post-war male reactionaries. Theweleit noticed that Freikorpsmen bifurcated the women they encountered into two camps. The "white" and the "red."

Holy shit — neo-Nazi leader Matthew Heimbach had an affair with his chief spokesman Matt Parrott's wife. Parrott is leaving the movement, possibly in shambles, saying:

“SPLC has won. Matt Parrott is out of the game. Y’all have a nice life.” splcenter.org/hatewatch/2018… The officer who arrested Matthew Heimbach writes that neo-Nazi spokesman Matt Parrott told the officer "he had been assaulted by his wife [...] and her boyfriend..."

White supremacist movements have always relied not just on white women's complicity, but their labor and activism. My latest: mic.com/articles/18722… In the 1920's, the second rise of the KKK was less about terror and labor discipline, and more about building a mass movement—part social club, part electoral platform.

The KKK of the 1920's was a corporation that elected 11 governors, 16 senators and as many as 75 congressmen.

Ok, time to talk about what's actually happening with women on the "alt-right" this week... The women of the alt-right didn't just discover sexism in white nationalism. They've always embraced it.

What's happening is a reckoning between two factions of the far right that can no longer coexist. mic.com/articles/18667…

White nationalists are turning toward bitcoin, and it's making them an absolute fortune, often thousands of dollars a day. My latest: mic.com/articles/18643… In the case of Counter-Current, publisher of books like "White Nationalist's Guide to the Movies," simply holding a balance has earned them about $18,000 in the past week.

The best thing about the NYT neo-Nazi profile is that they ran a simultaneous piece acknowledging its utter failing. nytimes.com/2017/11/25/ins… The problem isn't that the NYT story "normalized" a Nazi — the failure is the total lack of historicity, misunderstanding of fascistic movements and missing context of the history of American white nationalism.

To understand the current strain of fascism in Silicon Valley, look no further than 'Wolfenstein' — my latest, on fascism and technology: mic.com/articles/18599… Futurist visionaries and techies have been vital to nearly every fascistic movement in the past 100 years, and always play an essential role in lending their intellectual credibility to the zeitgeist.

The closest analogy to today's antifa isn't Eastern European history, but British anti-fascist right before and after WWII. Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists used public gatherings with police protection for rallies. They started by holding little debates.
