In this month comes the 2 most important days for शिव & विष्णु viz. आर्द्रा दर्शनं (Dec 30) & वैकुण्ठ एकादशी (Dec 25). purANas prescribe getting up early morning and praying to शिव & विष्णु ++ उषःकाले तु सम्प्राप्ते अर्चयित्वा जनार्दनम् । उपचारैः षोडशभिर्मुद्गान्नं च निवेदयेत् ।। ब्रह्माण्डपुराणे
One shall do pUja with षोडशोपचार and do pongal ( मुद्गान्नं) nivedana. This is the reason why most of the temples in TN do this and give hot pongal as prasAda early morning ++

This thread tries to explain the meaning & origin of श्रीवत्स present on the chest of विष्णु as found in Hindu texts.

Tamil commentaries translate it as mole (மறு). But Gaudiyas, Kisari Mohan Ganguli (MBH) & some dictionaries like MW translate it as whirl/white curl of hair ++ In sculpture this mole is represented by a flower of four petals arranged in the form of a rhombus, or by a simple equilateral triangle, and is invariably placed on the right side of the chest. Of these last 2 were maThAdhipati and among the greatest Brahma Jnanis that Bharat has produced ++ Both of them have same name and similar title. One is Bharati and other Sarasvati.
