5 steps to achieving remarkable results 1. Imagine the outcome you want to create.

Envision where you are headed in great detail. Don't talk yourself out of it. Don't encourage yourself to be realistic. Don't be your own bottleneck at this stage.

What would the magical outcome be?

My grandpa was one of my heroes.

He influenced my life in more ways than I can count.

He passed away almost 15 years years ago, but today we found this page in one of his old notebooks.

He titled it the “Positive Thinking Principle”

The way you think is the way you act.

The way you act is the way you are.

How to become a better public speaker:

I've given 100+ keynotes (mostly about my book, Atomic Habits). I'm still not particularly amazing, but I've definitely improved.

And the #1 thing I did to get better was surprising and totally by accident.

Here's what happened... First lesson: People love good storytellers.

I was never a great storyteller, but I have friends who are. You probably do too. As soon they start talking, everyone is captivated or cracking up.

They have your full attention. Complete engagement.

It's what every speaker wants.

How I run my business

2020 was my 10th year as an entrepreneur. Here are some "rules" I try to follow after a decade of stumbling around building my company.

(Not rules for all businesses. Just how I choose to run mine.)

If it doesn't deliver value to the reader, don't do it.

Thoughts on "going viral".

A short thread... Things that go viral, spread fast. And things that move fast tend to be lightweight.

In the case of information, this means virality prefers fewer bits of information to transfer from one person to another. Virality leans toward the bite-sized and immediately understandable.

The Ultimate Optical Illusions thread

I've been collecting different optical illusions for over a year. Here are some of my favorites. (I've tried to credit the creator and/or sharer whenever possible.) Let's start with some moving pictures.

This is a static image, but these dinosaurs look like they are moving.

(Thread)

I spent the last 6 years researching, writing, and thinking about habits. The culmination of this work was my recent book, Atomic Habits. (Now a NY Times best seller!)

In this thread, I'll share tweets from myself and others that illustrate some key lessons I learned. Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. They don't seem like much on any given day, but over the months and years their effects can accumulate to an incredible degree.

What is an Atomic Habit?

Atomic Habits launches in 3 weeks (!) and it's currently in some pretty good company on Amazon. (Shout out to @RayDalio.)

As we gear up for the launch, I want to explain why I chose the phrase "Atomic Habits" as the title for the book.

Here we go... I chose the title Atomic Habits for three reasons.

The first one you might expect. The word "atomic" can mean tiny or small, like an atom. And it is a core part of my philosophy that habits should be small and easy to do.

@CarlosArbona Oh man. Such a difficult question to answer. I‘ll offer a few ideas and you can narrow it down based on what sounds most interesting to you. @CarlosArbona Option 1: Italy

Pros: Incredible combination of scenery, history, and food. It’s well traveled for a reason. It’s amazing.

Choose between Rome, Florence, etc for history. Then, spend a week around little mountain villages like Santa Maddalena for views.

Cons: Expensive.

Each year, 40,000+ people visit Omaha to listen to Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger talk about their philosophy on business, investing, and life at the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting.

I just attended for the first time. Here are my favorite notes and quotes from the event. On making mistakes:

“We do a lot of dumb things in this world.”

1/ Habits do not restrict freedom. They create it. 2/ The people who don't have their habits handled are the ones with the least amount of freedom. They are always being forced to respond to the next urgent matter because they aren't prepared for the future.

1/ Some Thoughts on Meditation from an Amateur...

Meditation is one habit I've struggled for years to build. And one key reason is because I held a common misconception: I always believed meditation was supposed to be relaxing. This is a broken way to think about the process. 2/ My mental image of someone who was "good at meditation" was someone who was relaxed, calm, present, focused. Whenever I tried to meditate, I assumed I should feel relaxed, calm, present, focused. But these are simply the results of meditation, not the process of meditating.

1/ If there is one "thinking tool" everyone should have in their mental toolbox it is First Principles Thinking. It is the backbone of creativity and innovation, and a surefire way to think for yourself. 2/ A first principle is a basic assumption that cannot be deduced any further. Aristotle called it “the first basis from which a thing is known."

1/ You can train yourself to become smarter. One of the best ways to do that is to expand the set of mental models you use to think. 2/ A mental model is an explanation of how something works. It is a concept, framework, or worldview that you carry around in your mind.
