Alright, it's time for some honest talk about mental health.

Since I don't get to see any of my students for god-knows-how-long, we're going to do this as a thread. Buckle up! I know lots of you think that school causes your depression, your anxiety, your insecurities, your insomnia. We’ve had those talks, and I’ve seen your memes.

BUT school’s been out for over a month, and you’re still depressed, still anxious, still insecure.

"English only."

At a FL brewery earlier today, I heard a manager bark those two words at a friendly and professional employee who was having a quick chat with a fellow employee while waiting for food to come up.

Fellow white people, if I can, I want to tell you what I did next. I took the "store copy" receipt and doubled my tip. Then I took the "customer copy" receipt and wrote a note to the employee who was targeted, telling him that I heard the comment and would be happy to call the company and inform them of their manager's racist behavior.

Today, a kid in the hallway threw a rock at my window, breaking it.

Some students thought it was a gunshot. Most were just confused.

“Why do they hate you, Mr. Tilton?” they asked.

I wasn’t ready to answer that question then. I am now.

(A Thread) It wasn’t the first time this particular group of students have targeted me.

They've banged on my door, spit on my carpet, and yelled into my classroom that I can “suck a d**k.” They’ve followed me down the hallway, calling me “Skin flute.”
