Alot of people have absolutely no idea about how marriages or relationships work. Even married people have no idea about how it works. Someone once told me that...
1) Everybody has expectations before they wed about what they want in a marriage or relationship.
2) When they get married or get into the relationship, they soon realise that it's what they ordered vs what they got.
3) Then they try to force their ideologies on each other in a bid to meet their previous expectations...

How important is concept art and story boarding in any production?
A couple of things to do but here is what i do. One of the main crew members i hire is the production designer. They are responsible for the entire look and feel of the film.
Sometimes, there is a colour scheme, or a particular look and feel that the director wants.

Key steps is to look at the the following.
Divide the planning process into three
Pre production
Filming - Production
Post production
Pre production
Story.
Define the characters. The Hero and the villian etc. What are the themes...what story are you trying to tell. I would usually get a few writers in the room to banter. I could either camp them in my house or a hotel or have them come a few days.
