I've been a history student for a while, but I can say I've finally done research and writing to change this city's historiography by uncovering the lost stories of the countless child laborers who helped build Pittsburgh in our steel mills, coal mines, and foundries. Despite Pittsburgh historians often claiming boldly that the steel and iron industries did not hire children at all, I uncovered stories of up to 800 children at a time in an iron company, 900 at Henry Oliver Steel, hundreds at Carnegie and Frick, J & L and more. It's all there.

I put this on Instagram, but I'll put it here since Trump said he will not consider renaming bases named after Confederate leaders.

A thread of primary-sourced FACTS THAT DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS explaining why supporting Confederate flags and monuments is blatant racism: When the southern states seceded to form the Confederacy, they each provided their "Articles of Secession" in which they explained why they were leaving the Union. Collectively, these are known as "The Declaration of Causes of Seceding States."

Ready? Hold onto your butts.
