Grief is solid.

Like fog is solid.

A brief 🧵 on grief, fog, and the hope of a future Resurrection. twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Thick fog has the opacity slider turned all the way up. It clouds our vision as quick as it appears.

The fog of grief is solid in the sense that it’s impossible to see through. Grief has this way of convincing us that because we can’t see through it, we can’t step through it.

Let's talk about tragedy.
But first...coffee (A brief🧵).

When you think about the cup of coffee in front of you, you often don't think about the process from its home to your cup. It's pretty tragic. (1/10 Coffee is native to Africa. And this African plant made it's way to our shores, the same way African people did.

Theft! Kidnapping! It was stolen. Tragic right? (2/10

Let's talk about conflict.
But first...coffee (A brief🧵)

I don't know if you know this, but coffee actually changes flavors as it cools down. (Maybe the coffee doesn’t change flavors, but your brain grows in its ability to process flavors as it cools down) (1/7 Your brain can't process EXTREMELY HOT and NUANCED at the same time.

It's the reason why gas station coffee is SO HOT...because it is trash.

BASURA.

As it cools down, you start to taste the subtle notes of ash and roasted bicycle tires the heat was hiding.

But...

On grief, but first...coffee. A brief 🧵 on processing grief.

Most people avoid processing their grief for the same reasons they avoid drinking their coffee black. All they think about is the bitterness. And they want to run away from it as fast as humanly possible. (1/8) So the first thing they do is add a bunch of cream, milk, sugar, honey, etc. At which point they’ve done more than erase coffee’s bitterness. In their (or your…depending on how to you take your coffee) attempt to mask the bitterness, you’ve only really done two things

Ted Lasso and the importance of fatherhood! Notice how prominent it is in almost every main character’s arc.

Ted’s resolve to never quit
Rebecca’s resolve to never be taken advantage of
Jamie Tartt’s issues
Sam’s confidence
Nate’s insecurity
Even Roy (stand-in dad to Phoebe) The starkest contrast is between Nate & Sam.

We’ve physically seen Nate’s dad. They’ve been in the same restaurant. Same house. Yet Nate’s dad remains distant. REAL DISTANT.

We’ve never seen Sam’s dad. Only heard his voice. But every convo ends with him saying “I love you!”

I REMEMBER EVERYTHING: A Thread

The worst part isn’t the negative interactions w/ police. It's the recurring nightmares that are impossible to forget.

A great memory is mostly a gift. Here, it's a curse. It means you're constantly haunted.

A thread

(1/14 I REMEMBER the horror of seeing my older brother get sent to the hospital by a policeman who split open his left temple with a MagLite because he fit the description (even with his work uniform on) of kids who got into a fight earlier in the night. (2/

Stacey Abrams felt she was swindled out of an election.

She contested, then conceded. No one stormed the GA Capitol.

She worked hard for 2 yrs to ensure the marginalized had a voice.

The used their voice to influence an election

AND, the GA governor attempts to silence them This is America!

If you live in GA, let’s get to work to ensure all voices can be heard. That’s real patriotism!

Listen, I really like following some of y’all!

But y’all messing w/ the vibe I’m trying to curate on my timeline by ALWAYS talking about the latest racist things these clowns say.

You’ve GOT to be content w/ just sending a clown emoji or gif (your choice) and keep it moving These are some of my favorite ones. Save them to your favs for ease of access.

The Mr. Rogers one is dope. It shows that no ones exempt from clowndom.

Not even if you’re the type to wear cardigans.

A short thread on Mayo, Tuna Fish, & God's Control.

I hate mayonaise. I always have. I imagine I always will. However, I love Tuna Fish sandwiches. I always have. I imagine I always will. But up until marriage, I never knew how tuna fish was made (I went to public school)..(1/7) In our first year of marriage, my wife was making tuna fish for some crackers or sandwiches or something and I saw her about to put mayo in it. I tried (with all my might) to stop her, fearful she was about to ruin a dish that I so enjoyed. (Remember, I hate mayo)...(2/7)

My thoughts on reading Carl Trueman's article.

I read it all and walked away with an uncanny sense of freedom, relief, and energy to continue doing the work of addressing racial inequality and injustice.

Here's what I mean..

firstthings.com/article/2021/0… Carl neither represents my position nor properly diagnoses the source of my discontent with the current struggle over racial injustice or the disharmony we're currently experiencing.

A Tale of 2 Articles: A Chasm Creating Two Continents

@drmoore & Carl Trueman put out articles this week addressing what seems to be their take on the major problem with evangelicals & race. The online engagement & responses show how polarizing this issue continues to be. 1/7 While @drmoore is an SBC entity head, his personal lament, indictment, and challenge got little public engagement from his co-entity heads. (I don't think a single one liked, reposted, or retweeted).

That may mean nothing. Maybe people are fatigued. Tired of the constant (2/7)

If you want to see the full fury of a man, demean his wife. Go ahead, try it. Be provocative in your critiques about her. Be careless with your complaints. Use overgeneralizations when describing her flaws. Overlook her kindness...place a magnifying glass on her flaws. A seemingly quiet & docile man will explode with rage when his bride is repeatedly demeaned, disparaged & disrespected.

Sit with this. Out of ALL the metaphors that could have been used to describe the church—God labels it His bride!
