Just finished They Were Her Property: White Women as Slave Owners in the American South.

This book literally deserves to be read in high school, college, & grad school because it lifts the veil off white women as damsel & distress when they were co-conspirators in slavery. 🧵 Image Dr. Jones-Rogers explains why white women supported slavery:

1. A positive good for the African savages, whom slavery has civilized.

2. Slavery was “God‘s own plan” for helping these inferior people and white women were following his divine instructions and furthering it.
