The seas are wild all around me, but I am the beach, not the waves. Standing peaceful in chaos. Holding the courage to keep pursuing my true self. Ngāi Tahu

I wrote a blog about what has happened today. I needed to say it, even if it has ramifications. Whilst it's generally not a good idea to publish when the emotions are running so high, there are moments in life when the unfiltered view provides the best observation. 1/ It's the heightened anger that enables me to stand up & say things out loud that maybe in more rational moments I would filter. That filtering is what leads us to these events in the first place. The people who didn’t speak up to help out a kid, who was being bullied beyond /2

I sent @ToddScottNBR @TheNBR this in February when the media storm was piling on. Jake had reached out to me, he was beside himself. I tried to help. The fallout of my help; Todd doubled down & started going after me & my husband. He shamed Jake continuously, "Take a cement pill" ImageImage I asked Todd to try and use empathy here, I implored him to do so. I was very worried for Jake. I said the same to Ben Kepes. I asked him to think about the bigger picture. They both doubled down.

How about you @TheDetailNZ @_sbrett_ This podcast has not aged well. "I was determined to GRRR...at bloody Jake Millar..The typical journalism problem with Jake Millar is that he deigns to interview business people, which is what we do all day” /1 stuff.co.nz/national/the-d… The words used in the opening few mins “how could he start a business like that...”"charming" "persuasive" "disappeared & so has all the money". "Got addicted to the high life". Absolute rubbish journalism. A take down with no basis. A cloak of shame, you deigned he should wear

Need to convince someone who’s vaccine hesitant? I have a story for you. Yesterday I was introduced to someone whose whole family has been infected & impacted in this outbreak. Most in her family have “recovered”, but some still in terrible places. Known names of our pandemic /1 response emailed me to introduce her to our group. This is also indicative that they don’t know how else to help those who don’t get better right way. To be clear, that’s around 37% of cases at moment who don’t “recover”. She was desperate & a mother in crisis. My heart broke /2

I want to talk about values. A 🧵

It’s hard to know what to say when it becomes evident that friends have fallen down mis or disinformation rabbit holes. I get how it happens, the algorithms are working actively to pull you into the content you engaged with. 1/ The more of it you look at, the more of it you will see in your feed. Maybe that bolsters the belief that it is true.

But almost all of them are well educated people who are capable of understanding data or at least asking for assistance in disseminating information. Yet many /2

The only way out of this, is THROUGH IT. That’s usually the bit people wobble at, it can get bleak, tough & they give up. Persistence & resilience is the secret to any objective led success. It will require individual tenacity & belief in the shared goal. No shortcuts. All in. 1/ That doesn’t mean you have to rethink your politics. Think of it like trying to launch a project. I mean this pretty much is the ultimate reality show; The Hunger Games meets The Apprentice. It’s possible to align over a common interest in Aotearoa NZ /2

Yesterday was emotionally challenging. A number of friends were posting quite a bit of criticism on how the pandemic is being handled in NZ. As is their right to do & from their POV it's just "critical analysis". As someone who has been hugely affected by the virus 1/ at a health level, it's really hard to read. I couldn't work out why I was so upset all day, just in my belly feeling really nauseous and on the verge of tears. PTSD is a really big issue with those who have had Covid and I realised that watching people break away from the /2
