A new academic year starts in the UK, if you are a new Head of Department I wanted to share some things that have helped me through it so far - obvs acknowledging all our different contexts, privilege, responsibilities etc:
1. Protect a research day a week - at all costs. Even if you use this for 'catch-up' on everything else, it is vital. I now have Mondays as 'research' + refuse meeting requests. Sometimes I do actual research, other times I can ease into the week + not spend Sunday worrying
