Here's the major problem with mega churches: pastors with clean hands. 🧵

To have a really big church, you have to invest in high-level leadership, vision, that sort of thing. It takes time, connections with donors and the exercise of influence. 1/ You need to exude power and competence, and you need to drive your pastoral and church staff to perform at the highest level. Your time is committed to staff, donors, and high-level influencers within church life. 2/

This is wild: looking at the minutes of my first GA, PNW sent 12 TEs and 3 REs. Of the 15, here's where they are today. A short 🧵
First, the good: Good or celebratory:

Of 12 pastors, only 2 (including myself) are still PCA Pastors
-of the 2, only 1 is in the same pulpit
2 are still PCA TEs, but in non-pastoral roles
1 retired

This is a valuable thread concerning "identity" - Dr. Swain looks at two different ways this happens - evaluative and classificatory. In the former, a person who identifies in a certain way is simply evaluating themselves, seeing who they are; in the latter, they are categorizing

...themselves. Read the thread. My critique is that the concerns about identity that the #PCAGA has been dealing with relate to church officers. They are public figures, and so the way that they are heard is even more important than what they intend to say.
