Image when it came to rescuing jews from europe and hitler's tightening grip, the zionists focused on saving the young and physically fit who could fight, farm, and build. they saw other jews, in particular the old, infirm, and orthodox, as liabilities.

the basic principle of civil libertarianism is you should be free to do as you please as long as you don't harm the person or property of a nonconsenting other. in other words, as long as you don't hurt anyone or their stuff without permission, it's nobody's business what you do. christian nationalism upends this principle by asserting that the public expression of non-christian-conforming belief and behavior is a violation of christians' consent. it is an absurd contention: "i do not consent to your existence nor individual freedom of expression."

Abbott effectively said that white Jews pass for white and therefore aren’t subject to the kind of discrimination that Black people suffer, and she isn’t entirely wrong, but Orthodox Jews are routinely targeted for their appearance, though generally no longer by the state. Her position on “white passing” could have been more delicately phrased and taken into account the historical persecution of the groups she identified, but the outsized reaction is typical white fragility at criticism of systemic racism and opportunistic anti-Labour politicking.
