Alright since Twitter is imploding, I’ll spill something. 2 yrs ago, an Ivy League psych dept reached out to me and many of my Asian American assistant prof friends to apply for a SENIOR position. They just didn’t have enough POC applicants. They hired a White person at the end. Sometimes, these places can’t move on with their search unless they’ve met certain “quota” of POC applicants. They needed to tell the admin they tried. In this case, they could say that all the POC were too junior for the position so they can’t interview them at all.
