LIE 1: It was the election of Congress president and not the country's president.

Fact: While it is true that the election was for Congress president but it is equally important to note that the Congress President would become the prime minister too. This is confirmed by Rajmohan Gandhi in his book Patel: A Life. The same is confirmed by Michael Brecher when he writes, one month after the election Nehru was invited to be the de facto premier. Hence Gandhi preferred Nehru as the PM and not just Congress president.

(1/n) Nehru went to jail first time in December 1921. He was given 6 months imprisonment. He was treated better than other prisoners although he refused those privileges(time of refusing is important). He was released after 3 months due to some technical defect in his sentence.
