U.S. & other Western officials said the Russian missile launched at Dnipro was a ballistic missile but not an ICBM as Ukrainian Air Force reported. Some officials said it appears to have been an IRBM, so presumably RS-26 Rubezh.

A senior U.S. official told NYT that the Russian missile launched at Dnipro appears to have been an IRBM but “is a new type we have been tracking.” Unclear whether this means RS-26 or something else. Image

Another big shakeup in the Russian MoD. Putin replaced a number of long-serving deputy defense ministers and seems to have altered the division of responsibilities between their positions. Thread 1/x Image Dismissals

Putin issued a decree dismissing First Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov, State Secretary/Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov, and Deputy Defense ministers Tatiana Shevtsova and Pavel Popov.

Belousov, the new defense minister, met with them and thanked them for their service, per the MoD. 2/x

A Russian manual on how to protect vehicles against UAVs by using add-on cages/screens and jammers. The manual reportedly came from the Russian Defense Ministry’s Main Armored Directorate.

Russia purports to have recruited nearly 400,000 troops this year, obviating the need for further forced mobilization. How realistic is this claim?

Data from Russia’s Vladimir Oblast provide a clue. 1/x

Located just east of Moscow, Vladimir Oblast is unusual in that its regional government and the government of its capital city, Vladimir, have religiously published videos/pictures each time a batch of recruits leaves for training.

An assistant to the Belarusian defense minister said Wagner fighters haven’t arrived at a newly erected tent camp seen as possible housing for Wagnerites who participated in the mutiny. nytimes.com/live/2023/07/0…

Recall that yesterday Lukashenko said neither Prigozhin nor Wagner fighters are in Belarus. He said Prigozhin is still in Russia, while the Wagnerites are at the camps where they went after withdrawing from the frontline in the Bakhmut area. belta.by/president/view…

Remnants of a downed Geran-2, the Russian designation for the Iranian Shahed-136 one-way attack drone. The serial number differs from that seen on previous Geran-2s, perhaps indicating Russia has launched initial domestic production of these drones. t.me/milinfolive/10…
Image Previous Geran-2s seen in Ukraine began with “M” followed by a number. The earliest ones seen publicly started in the 200s. Eventually they went above 1000.
