Reform & Leaving the ECHR & The GFA.
So I spoke to Ben Habib yesterday about the Reform Party’s policy on Leaving the ECHR & the fact that it would be a breach of the GFA
Ben didn’t want to talk about this policy. Instead Mr Habib decided to launch into 1/ What can only be described as a diatribe about the Protocol. Claiming that the EU and Ireland had used the Protocol & GFA to “partition” the UK actually said without any sense of irony 2/

Then you should hang your head in shame because it is your brand of politics that as Jonathan Powell puts it is behind "the casual vandalism of the Northern Ireland peace process, something a previous generation of British politicians on both sides spent decades constructing" 1/ Not one of you gives damn about the impact of Brexit on Northern Ireland or Ireland. You play your political games with people's lives and build up the tensions with absolutely no regard for the people, communities and businesses in NI or in the border regions. Not a damn given 2/

Ireland's only objectives were to avoid a hardening of the land border on the island of Ireland a border seen by the people who live there as a symbol of the success of the peace process 2/

What @J_Donaldson_MP fails to acknowledge is that the Irish Govts only objective was to avoid a hardening of the land border on the Island of Ireland. To avoid the checks, controls between Ireland & NI plus the related costs involved 1/ Because what @J_Donaldson_MP fails to tell you in his disingenuous nonsense is that out of the CU & SM requires a border somewhere. As per Seamus Leheny 70 per of cross border trade on the Island is ingredients & components. While GB is NI biggest market, businesses 2/
