Time for a thread about translating research into comics! Let's take a closer look at my process, references and inspiration for this project. It's a short comic but a lot went into it. 1/ First of all, the fine folks at Bobcat Comics @UCMercedCFH @ca_lux got in touch asking if I'd be interested in being paired with a faculty member to create a short comic about their work which would then be published for open access to the general public.
Uh... YES. 2/

Pleasant surprise to discover the study about our comic has been published in @JsciCOM.

Things turned out a little differently than I expected, but I'm glad they did because it contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the potential of comics in science communication. 1/ Image You can read the full open access paper here: jcom.sissa.it/archive/20/02/…

Written by @RichardWiseman & Caroline Watt with @RikWorth & me.

P.S. I have no idea what that the cartoon in the link is - it's not from our comic nor in the paper.

Let's explore some of the references and inspiration I drew from for the "Style in Science Communication" course... Image I developed 33 unique illustrations for the @LifeologyApp course with @MassiBucchi & @FromTheLabBench. It was an honour to work with Prof. Bucchi, whose "Handbook of Public Communication of Science & Technology" I used while studying my scicomm masters! ImageImage

I'll be tweeting about the process, inspiration, easter eggs, etc. from my Hocus Pocus comics today, with a focus on the most recent issue about GHOSTS because it's the freshest in my mind and I'm the most excited about it.

Come peer beyond the mortal veil with me! #TBF20 ImageImageImage Let's start with CAMEOS! It's been really fun sneaking in guest appearances from friends of the comic & people we admire and casting them as suitable characters.

My favourite so far is the inimitable @ReeceShearsmith & Steve Pemberton @SP1nightonly in the Borley Rectory story. Image
