Few days ago we released the 2023 edition of @IEA’s Global Hydrogen Review!

Amazing work from the team that made it a reality. Thanks a lot for the effort!

Let me summarise the key findings in this thread🧵⬇️iea.org/reports/global… Let’s start with the “status quo”: little progress 🐌

Demand grew 3%, but it remains concentrated in refining & industry, with slow penetration in the new applications needed for a net zero future

These applications account for 40% of demand in our Net Zero by 2050 Scenario Image

Last week, we released the 2022 edition of @IEA’s Global Hydrogen Review at the Global Clean Energy Action Forum in Pittsburgh 🇺🇸

Here’s a short thread summarising the key findings 🧵⬇️ Image 💨Momentum continues to build behind hydrogen, with a growing number of countries setting out visions for its production & use.

The global energy crisis further strengthened the interest in low-emission hydrogen as a way to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, notably in Europe. Image

Wondering what is the role of hydrogen in our new @IEA #NetZero2050Roadmap? Here I’ll try to summarise the key findings and some critical #milestones that we should achieve in the way towards Net Zero 🧵. More details 👉 iea.org/reports/net-ze… (1/7) Today, global H2 demand is around 90 Mt. This demand should expand to 200+ Mt in 2030 and 500+ Mt in 2050. Most of this demand comes from new uses in heavy transport, production of H2-derived fuels (for shipping and aviation), industry or flexible power generation (2/7)
